    FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully they did a great job with the production of this, with proper mixing of the sound of the orchestra and the band. I look forward to reliving that performance. Seeing this outing with Orchestra in Chicago was a real highlight regarding the many Purple shows I have attended. Glad to see they are documenting this Great chapter in Purple History, and can’t wait to watch it on the 72″ in my Theater Room with surround sound cranked to the hilt…..’YEEEEOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!’

    Cheers

get yourselfs a copy of this months classic rock mag, there is a big feature on this very gig, its very revealing. gillan comes off pretty bad tho, slagging off you tube, rapture, recording, sound checks, in fact its like blackmore is in the building! paicy and glover are the driving force, wanting to make records and tour, however the band admit they are rudderless and dont rate any modern producers. They need a manager, thats for sure! still the cover looks nice and the mag says Ian’s voice was great!

@ Black Sheep: Do you have any closer informations about a Verona DVD? I know that the show was recorded, but not by who, nor with any informations concerning a release.

    Bo Finn Poulsen says:

    GREAT – I hope?

I have seen a lot of mixed reactions to thios show who comes to Denmark later this year.
to BIG AL #2: Yes they should find new ways for the future. Like new manager. What they do now is NOT good for the proud Deep Purple name.

    RickF says:

Great news! I was hoping for a 2011 tour DVD. Clips from the Orchestra portion. Still I am satisfied. The other DVDs from Montreux have been, bar none, some of, if not the best DP DVDs to date. A great stocking filler at Christmas. Well, a great used stocking filler. ;0)
    Thanks and Regards,
    RickF

    Roberto says:

    Horrible news…I can’t belive this…
there are yet other montreux shows on dvd and considering that they play everywhere in the world it’s a crime they still publish material from the same Swiss stage…the wonderful Verona show has been filmed and they are going to play in (sold out) London O2 arena…those are the gigs to be recorded and published!

  19. 19
    George says:

    This is GREAT!

BUT I think that Verona show would be a far too better to release on DVD, because of the amazing performance and stage/lighting set.
Btw, they could do a 5Disc DVD set: Deep Purple: The Songs That Built Rock 2011

Disc one: Live at the Royal Albert Hall (w/Lord, Wakeman, Bonamassa)
Disc Two: Live At the Montreux
    Disc Three: Live in Verona
Disc four: Live at the O2, London
Disc five: Tour documentary, interviews & bonus material

That would be a KILLER release!

    Scottbuster2000 says:

Gillan does not have that voice anymore [The Best In Rock History in my opinion]. We’re not there to see it but it seems as though Ian is the new Blackers and is holding the band back. I don’t know if it’s just me but I get more excited at the prospect of a Gillan Super Group with Tony Iommi ala, Who Cares. With a clean slate he can sing with his mid and low ranges which on ‘One Eye to Morocco’ & the Who Cares single he sounds Amazing. As for DP we don’t need a rehash of any previous Marks but a NEW Mark based on the best within’ the Purple Family Tree.
    Here’s my Mark :
Ian Paice – Drums [Nuff Said]
Roger Glover – Bass [Nuff Said]
Don Airey – Keyboards [Mr. Lord has his Health to worry About.]
Ritchie Blackmore – Guitar [Nuff Said]
Glenn Hughes – Vocals [Both Gillan and Coverdales Voices are Shot at the High Range.]

    StratKat (a.k.a. 'T') says:

While a performance from the orchestral tour should be included in the catalog, the set list is hardly different than the other Montreux DVDs. Ironically, Gillan recently commented that the band does not need to record a new studio album because they have plenty of songs from which to choose for the live shows–yet they do not take advantage of this vast repertoire. Montreux is a venue where they could have been a little more daring. À mon avis, plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

  22. 22
    scott f. feighner says:

I am going to reserve any excitement about this release until I actually have a chance to listen/hear the final product. After the release of the last Montreaux DVD, I stated that my disappointment with the performance of the bad was so great that I would never again contribute to their bank accounts by purchasing any release. I’ll stick with the DP catalog I had, but never again. That being said, I recently watched the footage of DP in Las Vegas and will admit to being impressed with the performance of both the band and with the addition fo the orchestra. I liked that the orchestra was there to sweeten the sound and not overtake the sound of the band. I’ve also seen some of the bootlegged Montrueax video and, in spite of the normal not quite full sound you get from an I-Phone or other digital recorder, I can hear that the band is playing to the level that made them a great live band. I may have to renege on my vow to never buy a new DP product, especially live product. I’m impressed enough to give it a chance…after an initial listening or two. Never say never.

    Ralf Schmidt says:

It was great to see the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt Orchestra (they were so great and they has so much fun) together with Deep Purple. Great songs with phantastic arrangements. I can´t wait until Nov. and I hope also to get a DVD from Verona.
    Cheers

  24. 24
    Victor says:

    @ Black Sheep

Is there a Verona dvd to be released too?

  25. 25
    Larry R. Toering says:

Can’t imagine any Montreux release not being mixed well, ha ha ha, are you kidding me?

2Verona, don’t expect it anytime in the next 6 months, but apparently it is supposed to be released… some day.

@Gillan, it should be common knowledge by now, not to let what he says bother you… he obviously does it for that purpose.

Big Al, give it a rest…. =shut up already!

Tracy Heyder (Zero the Hero) says:

    scott f. feighner@ 22,

Not quite sure about your disappointment with the Montreaux DVDs (I found them both great), but to each his own obviously. I am guessing that you didn’t attend any of these latest shows with Orchestra. I did, and I was blown away. Yeah, mostly the same old songs, but they are really playing up too and beyond par on this tour and the Orchestra is an added bonus that sets the whole thing aside from the rest. Trust me, you will be glad you purchased this when it comes out.

    Cheers

Good news! Also 2(?) live dvd’s, a new album and a tour coming my way..i’m happy!

In hindsight, a live dvd of each tour would have been nice.

  30. 30
    Svante Axbacke says:

Doesn’t it seem unlikely with two DVDs from the same tour released the same year? Maybe they just recorded two to be sure they would have one good enough for release? And the Montreux shows are always filmed by the festival anyway.

  31. 31
    buttocks says:

@28…….Yer an embarrassment for saying that. Can’t wait till it comes out, wish they did ( Place in line ) though!

  32. 32
    scott f. feighner says:

@27 Tracy. It was the DVD Deep Purple Live: They All Came Down to Montreux that caused such consternation. I just saw them as a band going though the motions, unlike the 1996 Montreux DVD, which I really enjoyed.

I did not get the opportunity to see DP on the orchestral tour. They didn’t get near my neighborhood. My only viewing was from youtube, in particular the Las Vegas show. I was impressed. I’ve also recently seen some of the Verona clips on YT.

    big al says:

ah larry, you misunderstand, all I did was quote the classic rock mag feature, where you can read all about the bands dilema’s…. I love the band dearly and always try to big em up even when they foul up. looking forward to this dvd and the uk tour in nov.

  34. 34
    Black Sheep says:

@hotblack – I’m afraid I don’t have any more information. The band were told it would be released in October but there’s so much hot air and hyperbole spoken in these situations that you never know.

The sound for it was mixed, done and dusted almost immediately straight after the tour ended, i don’t know what else is required for a DVD release but I’m sure it’s plenty.

@Henrik – You’re an embarrassment making inane comments on a forum for a topic you clearly have no passion for. Do one!

@Svante Axbacke – They’re probably two separate productions being released by different publishers, promoters or producers. There’s obviously no exclusivity agreement and the two releases will maybe be in competition. Alternatively maybe it’s one company putting both out to try and take advantage of a market they believe to be out there.

The crowd and the venue at the Verona gig was lit especially for the DVD release. i doubt they’d go to the trouble they already have if they have no intention of releasing the product.

  35. 35
    Larry R. Toering says:

Big Al -my sincere apologies, I should’ve considered the source. I’m just not a fan of the mag at all. No disrespect to you.

@Black Sheep, I will let everyone know when I get the press releases for both. I can say at this point that Eagle handles all of their official current material, on one outfit of theirs or another, Edel, Ear, etc… for Purple, Ian and Roger, so it’s safe to say that both will be released on Eagle at this point. Plus, just for good measure, I’ve been told the crew at Verona were all in Eagle attire, so they were spotted left and right at that gig, even in the box office. Montreux, as everyone should know are contracted with Eagle for ALL of their releases. These are the facts.

    StratKat (a.k.a. 'T') says:

    Re: #31

Great suggestion about one of my favorite Purple songs, “Place in Line”.

To my knowledge, “Place in Line” has never been played live, but it is a great vehicle for long soloing on both organ and guitar and would be an easy number to slip into the set. It’s just a simple blues.

To hear my take on it, scroll to the video (@ 3:50) at the bottom of the page:

    Hristo says:

My opinion: both show were filmed by Eagle Vision, so deeply regret but i can’t see Verona to be issued sooner than never, pity – Verona was one of the very best concert i ever attended, cheers

  38. 38
    eiricd says:

could it be that we will have 2 releases?

Eagle is an independent company and I’m sure artists who play the main venue there agree that their performances can be put out on dvd / blu ray? filming a gig is not cheap, so to have it done “for free” in Montreux is attractive for many bands I’m sure

Purple could easily release Verona on their own label / a different label.

the setting of Verona etc seems too good to leave the thing in the vault. and it seems weird that they recorded it only to hide it away

  39. 39
    Steve says:

Many of the 84/85 shows were shot (one even on 35mm film) and those were never released.

  40. 40
    Purpdawg says:

Just release it. Prayers for Jon.

  41. 41
    Larry R. Toering says:

@37 -as I pointed out, Eagle IS Deep Purples label, they release retro CD s and retro and current DVDs, and their subs Edel and EarMusic release current CDs of Deep Purple and Ian & Roger solo. There is no reason on earth why they would not release two inside the same year, Eagle is releasing a bunch of retro stuff over the summer as it is. The mkI remasters, In Concert 70-72, Scaninavian Nights and two mkIII live album, all re-issues. Business is good at Eagle, real good.

@Larry – Good work. How far in advance of release do you normally get press releases?

  44. 44
    Hristo says:

Sure Larry, nail it, you just forgot Edel’s Phoenix Rising bunch: http://www.thehighwaystar.com/news/2011/04/28/phoenix-rising-details/

Believe me, i praying for Verona Gig on DVD, but…who knows, cheers!

  45. 45
    Larry R. Toering says:

@Black Sheep. Some up to a couple of months in advance, some weeks or days, and occasionally some a week or two late.

  46. 46
    Tommy H. says:

    @ 39, Steve:

I always wondered why the never released a single concert from the 80ies. Especially one from the Perfect Strangers tour would be a real highlight.

I have enough Morse era DVD’s but the band accompanied by an orchestra during their best of set is worth to be add to my collection from what I saw on YouTube.

    @ 2, Big Al:

I don’t get why they always complain about YouTube in their recent interviews. What better promotion could there be for a new product. There are tons of videos on YouTube where a lot of companies present their new stuff – especially on the music-sector. I don’t think that if people like what they saw and heard on YouTube that they’ll totally abandon to go to their shows or buy their releases. Regarding their upcoming album: They would get asked about recording to a much lesser extent if they’ll make a clear announcement. What’s the problem? Bashing Rapture Of The Deep is kind of new to me. What did Gillan say about their last album?

  47. 47
    Larry R. Toering says:

@Hristo, -I didn’t cover it, DVDs are slim pickens and I’m not keen on brief write ups, as we’re only allowed to carry on shortly about them for some reason… nor that concert, although it’s fantastic quality, which does help, but otherwise there are plenty of other writers to handle things I’m not interested in reviewing. And some of them beat me to a lot of it as it is, it’s first taker gets the product or the show, as we all get them forwarded at the same time. So this one never made it my way, Gary snapped up the opportunity.

Hristo, for each issue the list takes up the front page, DVDs are near the bottom. The work put into ‘PR’ is worth more support than the price, any self respecting flexible Purple fan likely knows that already.

I take back what I wrote before.- I have just seen it.

And I must say it is astounding! The classical orchestra is a very cool addition!

Deep Purple certainly play well w/ Paice being my favourite.- Doesn´t he in some odd way hold the record for most played concerts in the world?

    Marije says:

Is this Deep Purple with orchestra at Montreux 2011 DVD on sale yet? Have seen bit of the Verona show in YouBTube, looked and sounded great, no idea though if there was an official recording/film made of this.

Great to see somebody actually go to the effort to check out something in order to varify, and then make an adjustment in their prior thoughts.
