It’s a rocky old road sometimes

On February 17, 2025, Don Airey has appeared on Mick Wall’s podcast Season 4, Episode 9, promoting his new album Pushed to the Edge. The conversation veered wide of the release, however, and ventured into Don’s years with Gary Moore, Colosseum II, Rainbow, Ozzy, Whitesnake, etc, etc.

Thanks to Anton Glaving for the heads-up.

I fell asleep last night during this interview, I really did. Not Don‘s fault, but the interviewer is about as lively as a heavily sedated funeral parlor manager: “Would that be oak or mahogany now?”

What a legend. There are always new stories to hear about Gary, Ritchie, Ozzy, Randy & John. Looking forward to the book.

That Cozy wanted to return to Rainbow (and their studio sessions in Denmark for recording Difficult To Cure) after Donnington (but Ritchie wouldn’t let him) was news to me! That would have likely altered the fate of that line-up with Graham Bonnet (whose backing vocals you can still hear on I Surrender) then staying on as well and Don not falling into doubt either (though he ultimately stayed for one more album, but was apparently not a great fan of Rondinelli’s drumming).
