TMIB in Hamburg
At the concert on November 27 in Hamburg’s Alsterdorfer Sporthalle the band played in front of a nearly sold out (7,000 people) audience. They had a surprise guest joining them just before the encores for Smoke on the Water. The Man In Black Jr — Jürgen Blackmore:

It seems anything and especially anyone associated with the current “parent band” are persona non grata to TMIB. On the other hand it’s good to see Jurgen on civil terms with the band. On a related note “Rolling Stone” magazine just posted a top 11 list of the all time best/worst feuds in Rock ‘n’ Roll. Not a mention of the DP/TMIB ruckus though. Fights, Law Suits,Allegations, Water Tossing and rumors about reforming other versions of the band should have won them at least a top 5 considering some on the list are still performing together!Here is the list 1) Mick Jagger and Keith Richards

I believe that Blackmore-Gillan relationship is one of two brothers that are to egoistic to admit their own sins. They hate and love each other, and with strength. Ritchie never said a thing against Gillan’s contribution in early DP, Gillan used to .hit a little bit about Blackmore saying this or that, but he’ll always give him his place among “greats”. I mean, look what happened between Axl and Slash lately about this “game issue” – terrible. DP is divided but it’s different thing.
December 1st, 2010 at 00:43It never ceases to amaze me the amount of behemoth vial spew that comes from supposed ‘Deep Purple Fans’ whom are obviously total ‘MIB Worshippers’ instead. The very mention of Blackmore, be it himself or I guess even his friggin’ Sperm unfolds into vile, nasty remarks regarding the present guard which has been Deep Purple since he selfishly left. My hats off to those whom have carried the torch even further than it was when it was burning out while He was at the helm.
Thanks to the present Purple such guitarists as ‘Bernie Marsden, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and now even Blackmore Jr.’ have been able to grace the stage and share with our beloved Steve Morse. He welcomes and shares the wealth of the stage as opposed to the prior ‘Queen’ of the stage whom was way too selfish and obviously insecure to be as giving and Generous as our present and longest lasting Guitar Hero of this great band. Yes, it is obvious that Steve would even graciously allow Ritchie himself accompany him on stage, in the most positive way. I don’t believe you would ever get that sort of generosity from our Man in Tights.
To those whom harbor such negative feelings toward Steve, by all means, please go to the ‘Blackmore’s Night’ website and spew your worship of the ‘Past’ there, where the Lute and Mandolin Reigns, and allow the folks who live in the ‘Now’ where the Guitar still Kicks ASS….DEEP PURPLE!!!!!
Steve and Co., you are a Class Act. Be proud, and thanks.

It concludes the fact that Ritchie may have been irreplaceable regarding Ritchie, he was by far Replaceable as the Guitarist for Deep Purple. Proven with CTTB and ‘Since He’s Been Gone’ ever since…..

I guess many people would pay a lot of money to witness Mark II doing some songs during the shows for the very last time. It’s been almost 17 years now that TMIB left the band. Isn’t that enough time to put old arguments aside for that good reason? … Just a thought, when I see something like this.

Jurgen has inherited his fathers looks and some aspects of his guitar playing. He’s obviously very influenced by his Dad’s music :o) From what I’ve heard, he hasn’t inherited the writing talents his Dad has, so it wouldn’t work with Purple. Steve is a great melodic composer and a brilliant guitar player. things have moved on, for better or worse but they’ll never be able to recreate the halcyon era….

December 3rd, 2010 at 12:45Steve has been superb with DP & he does make the band smile, but the very fact that he still needs to play all those classic RB riffs & solos so close to the originals reveals a lot about the current DP. They might not be able to get on stage with RB, but they do need to play the music he helped create. The Steve-era band has created some great stuff too (Ted, Bananas, Silver Tongue & the truly magnificent Sometime I Feel Like Screaming), but they seem really reluctant to base a set around them which often reduces the impact of the band to a very classy tribute act.
Let’s just enjoy whatever the respective parties do & live in the hope that one day …

You Obviously are the challenged one here….in reading. I never will, nor ever have minimized Blackmore’s contribution to Purple or beyond Purple even. On the contrary. I even buy, listen to and pay to see Blacklmore’s Night due to be a huge fan. Been a fan of Purple and Blackmore since 1969. You??? I just don’t live in the little Gold Fish Bowl that only houses one little Black Goldfish. Everything Blackmore has done has been great obviously, and that is that. Bashing the band Now at this stage in the game when they have all Been there and Done that for 40 plus years because Blackmore Quit is being Truly Challenged. It shows total lack of broad view and only a tiny peephole look at what all has been put out there for us all to listen to. Yes, even the Blackmoreless stuff. It’s just as good. Unless all you see is Black….you know what they say, ‘Once you go Black, you won’t go back’…..I guess you are proof.
Cheers and just a little advice, keep your obvious ‘Man Crush’ to yourself. But then again, you probably are president of the Rainbow Coalition…….

RB left of his own will long ago, Morse has been the DP guitarist longer than anyone else or anyone probably expected. Is it his fault the other band member like him and can now get along with each other?? Their newer music might not be airplay popular anymore, but they sure sell a lot of tickets “worldwide” and as far as Blackmores “banner”, he carries HIS OWN with BN, and Morse along with Gillan, Paice, Glover and Airey carry the banner for DEEP PURPLE.

Part of DP’s mystique was the clashing of egos/personalities,which made thier music legendary. I don’t think anyone can argue that that “magic” disappeared in November of 1993.

Simply said, she digs music and those who make it individually and as a group. And that is all that needs to be said!!!!
I could write a thesis on My Main Man Steve Morse. And you could write a thesis on Your Main Man Ritchie Blackmore. And that is more than fine. Leave them as individuals and on their unique talents and merits.
With that said, just a quick comment on TMIB’s SAD water toss among other poor behavioral acts. I seek the whole package of talent which includes character. Even if at some point the stars are way off alignment, Steve cannot know that kind of character. But I still absolutely get off on TMIB’s genius….

The musicians of the current DP line-up fit very well musically and personally but especially with the 70ies’ Mark II a lot more fell into place at the same time. I think when you are younger the fire in your heart is burning stronger – good potential for aggressive hard rock. With age this flame calmes down and so the music changes. I think the older you get the more difficult it is to write music which came out of yourself when you were younger.
The magical time regarding songs and performance TO ME started with In Rock and stopped after Perfect Strangers. At that time they were able to do something which very few bands are capable of – which pretty much defines what “magic” means. But this was limited by time because of their egos and because hard rock (especially this kind of singing) is draining. A very important part of the magic is the vitality and delight in playing. It came back when Morse joined the band and was missed years before Blackmore moved on. You can hear how much fun they have playing together when listening to their music. As long as they carry on with that they can’t do anything wrong.

Gillan compromises too much too long now and Airey and Morse are simply NO equals.
DP could be called DP with the CORE of Ritchie, Jon and Ian Paice, thats it.
Tommy Bolin IMHO was better suited than Morse to replace Ritchie, so gain….someare more equal than others.
I love DC but Ian Gillan is my main man, even although I ADORE “Burn”……
I kinda cherish CTTB but live I always feel shortchanged with Bolin.

Btw, unlike you think I hope “they” will deliver a 5th album.
But I dont hold my breath.
There is so much more to life than begging for years for another mediocre album.

You Preach as though Your opinion and Taste is gospel across the board regarding ‘What is and What isn’t’ in the realm of Deep Purple. You many be a Priest but you are preaching Your Own opinion and it isn’t solid truth regarding reality for All. Same Old Song and Dance from One whom seems to think he is the relative last word in the Rules and Regulations of What Deep Purple is and should be…..
Your Congregation is crumbling. Purple proved there is an ‘After Life’ without your Messiah, Ritchie. The quality of Purple with or without him is up to each individual listener. You can’t Preach someone’s ears to hear what you want them to hear. Your Truth is Yours alone. Those whom agree are on their own due to their own taste, just as those whom don’t. Constantly hammering whether or not Purple is Purple is truly asinine……probably due to lack of Oxygen to the brain. I advise you to take a Deep Breath and hold it for at least 10 minutes, while listening to ‘Son of Alerik’…..

Today I read about a new Tommy Bolin book.
I dont know if the author is right in hnis mind because he also wrote a book about GRUNGE and how wonderful that was.
But would love to have it anyway.
It seems that it might add some nice touchees to my DP library.

Is it true Bolins real familyname is Erickson?
That he is half Swedish/half Syrian?
Wasnt the name of the Swedish fc also Erickson?

Somehow I always thought Tommy had an Indian/Cherokee/Sioux/whatever side.
Or was that to give his aura some more cachet?
Recently I more and more came to love his songs on which he also sang.
The jazz rock stormers like the one with Combam does not really touch me that way.
Songs like Alexis, Dreamer, Brother Brother and most Private Eyes are so lovingly smooth.
Hello Again always has been one my favourite ballads.
Tommy is no Ritchie but he sure had a lot to offer.

Eriksson is a very common name in Sweden. Bolin isn’t unusual either, although not as common as Eriksson.

Good Jürgen just jammed a little with his old uncle pals (Gillan, Paice and Glover) he grew up with them!, his father’s relationship with the band it’s apart. Say, if your father has a fight with your uncles, will you hate them?
On the other hand, RB it’s a great composer and performer, but a band it’s a whole, so I do believe that SM fits better in the band nowdays, it makes them shine bright!.
Remember DP today it’s a band with it’s place on Rock and Roll history, they’re not trying to impress as a new band, it’s clear that they enjoy doing their work!, and they do that amazingly!
I like RB a lot but I don’t miss him, It’s always better to live the present the best that you can, instead of trying to force the past when it doesn’t fit anymore in the present.
