TMIB in Hamburg
At the concert on November 27 in Hamburg’s Alsterdorfer Sporthalle the band played in front of a nearly sold out (7,000 people) audience. They had a surprise guest joining them just before the encores for Smoke on the Water. The Man In Black Jr — Jürgen Blackmore:
Also, be sure to check out truly excellent pictures from the show taken by Falk Simon.
Thanks to Yvonne Osthausen for the info.
Yessssss sir!!!!
November 29th, 2010 at 22:23woooooooooooooow!!! Blackmore as a special guest? haha, GREAT
November 29th, 2010 at 22:29GET RID OF MORSE AND ADD BLACKMORE JR.!
November 29th, 2010 at 22:36I never thought i’d see the day.
“And harley said ya ‘stichken toja gunz'”
But any fool kno that
November 29th, 2010 at 23:18I wonder if TMIB senior will be upset by this? Or maybe he just doesn’t care. Here’s a thought, why doesn’t Ritchie do this once? Do you think that would upset Steve? It would be very interesting indeed! I don’t think Gillan would allow it.
November 30th, 2010 at 00:15That had to be a rush for everybody!! That sent shivers up my spine!!! A Blackmore onstage with Deep Purple. If you could just get the ol’Blackers to do it! That was great!!
November 30th, 2010 at 01:40Yeah JR.Blackmore … the “little” MIB …
A great guitar player who makes a good job on the guitar.
I wish, he will tour again with joe l. turner or others to see him soon again.
“LLRnR”
-kraatzy-
November 30th, 2010 at 06:41So is Jr. now ostracized, outcast & estranged from his father? It seems anything and especially anyone associated with the current “parent band” are persona non grata to TMIB. On the other hand it’s good to see Jurgen on civil terms with the band. On a related note “Rolling Stone” magazine just posted a top 11 list of the all time best/worst feuds in Rock ‘n’ Roll. Not a mention of the DP/TMIB ruckus though. Fights, Law Suits,Allegations, Water Tossing and rumors about reforming other versions of the band should have won them at least a top 5 considering some on the list are still performing together! Here is the list 1) Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
2) Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel
3) Steven Tyler and pretty much everyone else in Aerosmith
4) Roger Townshend and Pete Daltrey
5) Ray and Dave Davies
6) John Lennon and Paul McCartney
7) Roger Waters and David Gilmour
8) Don and Phil Everly
9) Liam and Noel Gallagher
10) Axl Rose and Slash
11) David Lee Roth and all of Van Halen NO RESPECT!!! Regards,Drdp
November 30th, 2010 at 11:20Hi All….the band look and sound gooooooooooood, pity they couldnt make a couple of dates in the UK. We saw them in Belfast the only Uk Gig this year…..so come on DP management make something happen..
November 30th, 2010 at 12:01Cheers Rob
Get rid of Morse? Why would they do that? Just enjoy the moment!
November 30th, 2010 at 14:43Lists, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Fleetwood mac is one of the forgotten bands as well, btw.
Btw, in Classic Rock magazine, Joe Lynn turner is mentioned in the top 40 greatest AOR singers all time.
Ofcourse anti JLT will embrace this as evidence he was never a heavy rock singer at all.
Maybe Steve morse could be enlistened in the top 40 Country Fiddlers all time?
November 30th, 2010 at 16:15Oh Dear, guess not.
George @5,
Master Steve wouldn’t mind at all. He invites banjo players of every ilk and level to up and strum along as all continue to witness. But yesterday, today, and for the rest of time, TMIB and remaining Purp gents would never have it.
pee-pee’65@11,
Surely you meant enlisted? Indeed. Country Fiddler (We’ll include Bluegrass here), Classical, Jazz, Baroque, Rock. Surely I’ve left a genre or two out. But he kills them all. Pure genius. And you know it….
Now let me see if you left anything mindless in the Steve Metal Interview comments.
Stone coooooold, ice cold….
Peace,
Ted
November 30th, 2010 at 20:154) Roger Townshend and Pete Daltrey
Heh, that one is GOOD!
😉
Ritchie won’t join any Purple show, he just doesn’t care.
November 30th, 2010 at 21:45Ahh.. Yes @ 11 priest with the rip of “Steve morse”…doesn’t suprise me at all, it never ends!
December 1st, 2010 at 00:01OMG! He looks just like his dad from mid distance. It’s like true DP at first look. 🙂
@8
I believe that Blackmore-Gillan relationship is one of two brothers that are to egoistic to admit their own sins. They hate and love each other, and with strength. Ritchie never said a thing against Gillan’s contribution in early DP, Gillan used to .hit a little bit about Blackmore saying this or that, but he’ll always give him his place among “greats”. I mean, look what happened between Axl and Slash lately about this “game issue” – terrible. DP is divided but it’s different thing.
December 1st, 2010 at 00:43It never ceases to amaze me the amount of behemoth vial spew that comes from supposed ‘Deep Purple Fans’ whom are obviously total ‘MIB Worshippers’ instead. The very mention of Blackmore, be it himself or I guess even his friggin’ Sperm unfolds into vile, nasty remarks regarding the present guard which has been Deep Purple since he selfishly left. My hats off to those whom have carried the torch even further than it was when it was burning out while He was at the helm.
Thanks to the present Purple such guitarists as ‘Bernie Marsden, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and now even Blackmore Jr.’ have been able to grace the stage and share with our beloved Steve Morse. He welcomes and shares the wealth of the stage as opposed to the prior ‘Queen’ of the stage whom was way too selfish and obviously insecure to be as giving and Generous as our present and longest lasting Guitar Hero of this great band. Yes, it is obvious that Steve would even graciously allow Ritchie himself accompany him on stage, in the most positive way. I don’t believe you would ever get that sort of generosity from our Man in Tights.
To those whom harbor such negative feelings toward Steve, by all means, please go to the ‘Blackmore’s Night’ website and spew your worship of the ‘Past’ there, where the Lute and Mandolin Reigns, and allow the folks who live in the ‘Now’ where the Guitar still Kicks ASS….DEEP PURPLE!!!!!
Steve and Co., you are a Class Act. Be proud, and thanks.
Cheers
December 1st, 2010 at 02:08BTW….Mr. Priest,
The Latest Classic Rock Magazine has a Major in-depth multi-page article regarding ‘Come Taste the Band’. Please read it. It concludes the fact that Ritchie may have been irreplaceable regarding Ritchie, he was by far Replaceable as the Guitarist for Deep Purple. Proven with CTTB and ‘Since He’s Been Gone’ ever since…..
“Since he’s been gone, since he’s been gone,
Deep Purple has done well without him……”
Cheers
December 1st, 2010 at 02:19So how was Jurgen introduced? Nice to see. Given the age of the guys I do hope they can reconcile their differences and have TMIB come back if only as a guest and than for everyone to go their own way and retire the DP name. Life is way too short to stay angry.
December 1st, 2010 at 03:19but in all seriousness… am I the only person who thought Jr sounded pretty bad? He played the chorus chords instead of the 2 big chords at the end of the guitar solo…
Did steve take all the guitar solo?
December 1st, 2010 at 08:46Good to see a BLackmore on stage with DP.
Although at least this Blackmore doesnt have his head stuck up his pretentious Has-Been ass.
@11 ‘Ofcourse anti JLT will embrace this as evidence he was never a heavy rock singer at all’ – how wrong you are – I just dont consider JLT……………at all
December 1st, 2010 at 09:17To see the black shape on the stage is like a heartquake!!!!
December 1st, 2010 at 09:24Ritchie…..where are you? (sorry Steve but the first love…..)
@11 JLT should be in the top 40. Another forgotten vocalist is Bert Cummings (sp) of “The Guess Who.” He along with IG & Purple seem to skip the minds of the so-called expert’s list.
December 1st, 2010 at 17:39If Deep Purple was ever doing a farewell tour during the next years or so, wouldn’t it be nice to have Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore as guest musicians? I guess many people would pay a lot of money to witness Mark II doing some songs during the shows for the very last time. It’s been almost 17 years now that TMIB left the band. Isn’t that enough time to put old arguments aside for that good reason? … Just a thought, when I see something like this.
December 2nd, 2010 at 01:03Jürgen moves just like his father. That alone is enough for me, to get that special feeling back on stage. It was lost back in 93.
December 2nd, 2010 at 09:04Steve makes the hole band smile, but the magic is not there anymore. I’m so sad to say 🙁
Jurgen has inherited his fathers looks and some aspects of his guitar playing. He’s obviously very influenced by his Dad’s music :o) From what I’ve heard, he hasn’t inherited the writing talents his Dad has, so it wouldn’t work with Purple. Steve is a great melodic composer and a brilliant guitar player. things have moved on, for better or worse but they’ll never be able to recreate the halcyon era….
December 2nd, 2010 at 10:46@12
But he’s by far best in playing Ritchie’s riffs – he’s brilliant in that, indeed. And of course welcoming TMIB in playing his own tunes, such generosity. TMIB should be really lucky if he allows him playing his own riffs. 🙂
December 2nd, 2010 at 13:45Tracy @16,
Very eloquent. Kudos. And, ’nuff said….
#24- Pure magic continues, thankfully. And most opinions respected….
Peace,
Ted
December 2nd, 2010 at 13:52Steve is a pro and I don’t think he would mind having anyone on stage with him. But I do agree that the magic has not been there for a long time. It’s not Steve’s fault but the magic is just not there anymore.
December 3rd, 2010 at 02:07IF IT WAS NOT FOR STEVE MORSE THERE MIGHT NOT BE A DEEP PURPLE FOR JURGEN TO PLAY WITH.RITCHIE DID HIS VERY BEST TO DESTROY DP BEFORE HE LEFT SO I REALLY CAN’T UNDERSTAND SOME OF YOU SO CALLED DP FANS LOOKING FOR RITCHIY BACK OR FOR STEVE TO LEAVE.SOME OF YOU GUYS REALLY SICKEN MY RING.
December 3rd, 2010 at 12:45Steve has been superb with DP & he does make the band smile, but the very fact that he still needs to play all those classic RB riffs & solos so close to the originals reveals a lot about the current DP. They might not be able to get on stage with RB, but they do need to play the music he helped create. The Steve-era band has created some great stuff too (Ted, Bananas, Silver Tongue & the truly magnificent Sometime I Feel Like Screaming), but they seem really reluctant to base a set around them which often reduces the impact of the band to a very classy tribute act.
Let’s just enjoy whatever the respective parties do & live in the hope that one day …
December 3rd, 2010 at 13:43I really wonder what the Blackmorons would think of a Deep Purple without Gillan/Glover/Paice for long enough to notice anything unique about them. It cracks me up that people think he is a one man band, and the others are like talentless criminals because he left and they carried on to the tune of making ‘his’ money. It’s just marbles. Maybe some BN on the headphones will shut them up… oh, wait… most of them don’t even support what’s supposedly coming from his ‘stirring’ soul. It’s Dogma!
December 3rd, 2010 at 19:48Hi Tracy, It never ceases to amaze me how you can minimalize the contributions of Ritchie Blackmore to Deep Purple and then insult him in the process. I honestly don’t believe I, or anybody for that matter, has to explain the simplest things to you.
Ritchie Blackmore was the guitarist for Deep Purple when they made a world wide impression on Rock and Roll..
You know what ? Forget this…I’ll just say that Steve Morse carries Ritchie’s banner as a guitarist very well in the Deep Purple tradition.
Deal with it, Tracy. Keep showing your ignorance, because Ritchie doesn’t play the music YOU think he should. I’m sure he reads your posts very closely 🙂
December 3rd, 2010 at 21:01I will now add Crimson Ghost to the list of the ‘Deep Purple Musically Challenged ‘
December 3rd, 2010 at 21:17Oh please GREAT Editors of THS…please let me make the point that Ritchie’s son played Deep Purple’s most famous song onstage !
December 3rd, 2010 at 21:57Great job JR AND Deep Purple !
Nice Try Gary…but No Cigar…
You Obviously are the challenged one here….in reading. I never will, nor ever have minimized Blackmore’s contribution to Purple or beyond Purple even. On the contrary. I even buy, listen to and pay to see Blacklmore’s Night due to be a huge fan. Been a fan of Purple and Blackmore since 1969. You??? I just don’t live in the little Gold Fish Bowl that only houses one little Black Goldfish. Everything Blackmore has done has been great obviously, and that is that. Bashing the band Now at this stage in the game when they have all Been there and Done that for 40 plus years because Blackmore Quit is being Truly Challenged. It shows total lack of broad view and only a tiny peephole look at what all has been put out there for us all to listen to. Yes, even the Blackmoreless stuff. It’s just as good. Unless all you see is Black….you know what they say, ‘Once you go Black, you won’t go back’…..I guess you are proof.
Cheers and just a little advice, keep your obvious ‘Man Crush’ to yourself. But then again, you probably are president of the Rainbow Coalition…….
December 4th, 2010 at 00:06WOW whatever hold TMIB has on a few people must be incredible…..I won’t speak for the others, but I don’t think anyone here, myself included minimalizes Blackmores contribution to rock music, be it with Deep Purple or Rainbow (he was awesome with both) what I just get tired of is the constant ripping of Steve Morse by certain individuals. RB left of his own will long ago, Morse has been the DP guitarist longer than anyone else or anyone probably expected. Is it his fault the other band member like him and can now get along with each other?? Their newer music might not be airplay popular anymore, but they sure sell a lot of tickets “worldwide” and as far as Blackmores “banner”, he carries HIS OWN with BN, and Morse along with Gillan, Paice, Glover and Airey carry the banner for DEEP PURPLE.
December 4th, 2010 at 00:10Let’s have a BIG welcome for our resident Blackmoronic Plague spreader, Gary. Otherwise known as the winner of 1972’s season of “Last Comic Standing…” Totally joking man… especially if you were, lol, but we must never oplogize for our honest expressions or we’d be lying.
December 5th, 2010 at 08:31So Blackmore Jr. hits the stage with Purple!?! Big deal! It’s just a little jam among friends, nothing more.
December 5th, 2010 at 14:55You people continue to be so narrowminded about this great band. RB was arguably the main contributor to most of the bands success.(Gillan has even sid this numerous times) He had enough in 93 and left. Morse took his place and the band continues, which is great, it seems they are a watered down version of thier former selves. This is not the only band hat this has happened to. Part of DP’s mystique was the clashing of egos/personalities,which made thier music legendary. I don’t think anyone can argue that that “magic” disappeared in November of 1993.
December 6th, 2010 at 13:31I WAS THERE !
I CAME BACK YESTERDAY FROM GERMANY
I SAW THEM, THEY WERE BRILLIANT. Absolutely fresh, Hard Lovin’ Man was perfect
And i couldn’t believe my eyes when i saw Jurgen with white Stratocaster !
December 6th, 2010 at 16:08‘Everything Blackmore has done has been great obviously, and that is that.’
Couldn’t disagree more. Personally I find that anything he has done in BN is awful and boring and is supported by someone who can’t sing…… Kudos for DP for inviting his son onstage for a good rendition of a classic song.
December 6th, 2010 at 16:45Thank you Big Al, you made my point better than I did. A lot of Deep Purple fans like to make it a Blackmore vs. Gillan or a Blackmore vs. Morse thing. As you astutely stated, a fan has to look at the total history of the band from an objective point of view. Sometimes I don’t do that myself, but to denigrate the contributions of any member of Deep Purple , past or present…especially in the case of Ritchie Blackmore goes beyond any reasonable perspective and borders on the stupidity. No need to name names, is there >
December 6th, 2010 at 19:07…which brings us back to the point of the topic of the thread 🙂
December 6th, 2010 at 19:13Big Al @39…… good comments, as far as watered down, depends how you look at it, these guys are after all are in their sixties, they simply can’t rock like it was 1972-75 and the “mystique” of DP being clashing of personalities?? you are so right on there, but “clashing” can go on for only so long before creativity suffers (just think of your workplace) and everyone just says F+++ IT! Deep Purple still endures for us to enjoy or not its our call. I’m in till the end 🙂
December 6th, 2010 at 23:47Cheers
Then you compromise as much as anyone else by still following them. You just said so yourself, Big A.
December 6th, 2010 at 23:49Yeah!!!!! Let’s hope someday soon, Steve Morse throws a glass of water at someone, or doesn’t show up on stage, or leaves before the show is over……YEAH!!!! That’s what it’s all about….
Are you Blackmore Worshippers all the same??? sure seems like it.
I guess that’s what is missing from the Blackmore’s Night concerts for you all. Blackmore smiles as much as Steve Morse does now. I’ve been the BN shows. He is now Happy. Shows up on time. SMILES even.
I didn’t realize that at Happy Blackmore/Purple fan was only happy when They are mad and unhappy…..
Get over it….Blackmore is GONE and Happy. Purple is HERE and Happy.
Long live Purple…..Blackmore and the Rest. DIO RIP.
Cheers
December 7th, 2010 at 01:33Hi Tracy, the way you phrase things can be taken as ‘ offensive ‘. For example ( I’ll type slowly so you get the idea ). I’m a guitarist, and Ritchie Blackmore is my main influence ( I’ll type slower now so you can catch up )…You don’t know Ritchie personally, do you ? Yet you seem to not like him. This makes me sad. You don’t wannt to make people feel sad , do you Tracy ?
Arguing with a fool makes ME look stupid, so I’ll stop now.
December 7th, 2010 at 17:50Getting back, yet again, to the point, and PURPOSE of this thread…..
JR playing Smoke on the Water WITH Deep Purple was cool !
December 7th, 2010 at 17:56Gary, you must be arguing with yourself…..
Funny, the slower you type, the less sense you make. I totally cleared up your false accusation toward my feelings about TMIB and you still insist on repeating the same thing. Don’t type so slow. Read slow instead. That might help you get it.
Never stated I know TMIB personally. Have met all the rest though. You’re a guitarist, I’m a singer/drummer. So what? What does that have to do with anything? Seems as though that his influence on you goes beyond the guitar. You could use a little Morse Attitude adjustment to go with your arrogance….
Cheers
December 8th, 2010 at 03:15I do not wish to offend anyone, just stating my opinion, its good to see at least a few people agree. Its a free world and I know my opinion means less than squat, but for me, I wish to remember the band in their heyday, when nobody could come close to a live Deep Purple show. I wish the best to the present band as well as former members of it.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:38Greetings Gary, @47,
I continue to be amused by all postings, including mine!
Tracy gets it, BIG TIME. She has posted nothing but positive shtuff time and time again regardless of subject matter, sure, much of which is TMIB subject matter. She, you, I, all aboard here, don’t know Ritchie and need not!!!! She is still digging TMIB’s music, past, present, and most likely future. As I am. So I don’t know where you are coming from with respect to “you seem to not like him.”
????!!!!
Simply said, she digs music and those who make it individually and as a group. And that is all that needs to be said!!!!
I could write a thesis on My Main Man Steve Morse. And you could write a thesis on Your Main Man Ritchie Blackmore. And that is more than fine. Leave them as individuals and on their unique talents and merits.
With that said, just a quick comment on TMIB’s SAD water toss among other poor behavioral acts. I seek the whole package of talent which includes character. Even if at some point the stars are way off alignment, Steve cannot know that kind of character. But I still absolutely get off on TMIB’s genius….
Can all of you get it?!
Continued thanks Steve, Ritchie, and your MAGICAL PURPLE MACHINE commonality!
Peace,
December 8th, 2010 at 17:43Ted :>
Gary, Tracy – take it to private email if you are going to take it as low as personal attacks. Grow up.
December 8th, 2010 at 22:02The magic … let’s put it like this:
The musicians of the current DP line-up fit very well musically and personally but especially with the 70ies’ Mark II a lot more fell into place at the same time. I think when you are younger the fire in your heart is burning stronger – good potential for aggressive hard rock. With age this flame calmes down and so the music changes. I think the older you get the more difficult it is to write music which came out of yourself when you were younger.
The magical time regarding songs and performance TO ME started with In Rock and stopped after Perfect Strangers. At that time they were able to do something which very few bands are capable of – which pretty much defines what “magic” means. But this was limited by time because of their egos and because hard rock (especially this kind of singing) is draining. A very important part of the magic is the vitality and delight in playing. It came back when Morse joined the band and was missed years before Blackmore moved on. You can hear how much fun they have playing together when listening to their music. As long as they carry on with that they can’t do anything wrong.
December 9th, 2010 at 01:12Hi Svante….You know me. If I see an unreasonable attack on Ritchie Blackmore or his fans I will respond to it. Which is exactly what I did. May I suggest that if you don’t want such ‘ silliness ‘ on this great site that you edit such comnments/ insults towards current and former members of the band we all love more carefully ?
You editors at THS do a fantastic job. The best site for any and Deep Purple information. But I do take offense at Tracy’s comments, which were uncalled for, considering the topic of the thread.
December 9th, 2010 at 18:07To clarify my point with crystal clear clarity ( I hope )…
I appreciate ALL line-ups of Deep Purple. Each and every one has strengths that differs from the others, no matter who the guitarist was, the singers, the bass players etc
Steve Morse is one helluva guitarist, and if Ritchie Blackmore isn’t the guitarist ( whom I prefer out of personal taste ) I’m glad Steve is !
December 9th, 2010 at 18:50And Svante…if I may, please check out the ‘ Induct Ritchie Blackmore into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ‘ for some pointers :-)…You won’t find ANY BS there
December 9th, 2010 at 19:43“Svante”, I only responded to a personal attack, with my ‘Silver Tongue’…please see where it started @#32.
He who casts the first stone, gets it back…Double. Surely you know me by now, well enough to know that.
“Ted the Mechanic”….I’m not a chic.
Cheers
December 10th, 2010 at 02:23@ 51 You keep referring to Tracy as She…hilarious, or am I missing on something…and no, Ted, Tracy doesn’t get it big time, he’s (she’s) just arrogant as always 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone, Kippis to you all
December 10th, 2010 at 14:10Appearantly Tracy s gender is still a mystery.
Poor Trace.
Gonna take some more oxygen after this, I m having a terrible cold.
Cheers!
December 10th, 2010 at 17:05Yeah, Priest….to some whom don’t know how to READ, or click on the name, my gender might be a mystery. Just as you, whom just recently signs off as MARK. I guess it became questionable as whether you really were The Priest. No, you are just Mark. Oh well…..
Oxygen??? It’s in the air. 21 percent actually depending on where you live. Is that the secret remedy for fighting a cold where you live? What do doctors charge for that? Does your health insurance cover it?
Hope you get well, taking Oxygen which is generally EVERYWHERE!!!!!
Cheers
Oh and Sami, don’t even try to go there. You know I get it….LOL
December 11th, 2010 at 03:11Getting outside helps when the wind does not blow from the East.
I was kidding ofcourse, reading the Gillan/Oxygen parts.
I am both Mark and purplepriest1965.
December 13th, 2010 at 17:55I gues I m stuck with it.
I once tried to change it but Svante had a bad day and he would not let me.
Don’t care about the Blackmore lovers/haters thing here. This articles’s about the show in HAMBURG which was definitely the best DP show out of the six I’ve seen so far.
December 17th, 2010 at 23:41At one of these six the guitarist was RB btw. 😉
Btw,suggesting so called Blackmorons think Blackmore IS DP on his own is ridicilous.
I ll never dismiss the qualities of the others but some are more equal than others, thats a fact!
Gillan compromises too much too long now and Airey and Morse are simply NO equals.
DP could be called DP with the CORE of Ritchie, Jon and Ian Paice, thats it.
Tommy Bolin IMHO was better suited than Morse to replace Ritchie, so gain….someare more equal than others.
I love DC but Ian Gillan is my main man, even although I ADORE “Burn”……
I kinda cherish CTTB but live I always feel shortchanged with Bolin.
So……
And so on…..
I m one of those many fans that KNOW he did not only make top noth stuff.
So please stop patronising US!!!!
Its just…
The one does not exclude the other, meaning :
Knowing not all RB did has been wonderful does not mean WE are wrong to suggest Morse was not the right man for the job.
I still kinda like some of his music, I REALLY DO!!!!, but his solo s are repetitive and annoying soundwise to the extreme.
Although I do like some of his stuff most is on the NO CONTEST with TMIB level.
Yeah, I m repeating myself.
We all do.
Cheers, Mark, Igor and Lizzy.
December 26th, 2010 at 13:08@ 17
I m really having a ball with the CTTB remix.
I m playing and playing it to death.
Agreed, the most exiting DP album without Ritchie.
Like Lord said, its not Deep Purple. But a damn good heavy rock album it is.
Btw, unlike you think I hope “they” will deliver a 5th album.
But I dont hold my breath.
There is so much more to life than begging for years for another mediocre album.
December 26th, 2010 at 23:54#63
You Preach as though Your opinion and Taste is gospel across the board regarding ‘What is and What isn’t’ in the realm of Deep Purple. You many be a Priest but you are preaching Your Own opinion and it isn’t solid truth regarding reality for All. Same Old Song and Dance from One whom seems to think he is the relative last word in the Rules and Regulations of What Deep Purple is and should be…..
Your Congregation is crumbling. Purple proved there is an ‘After Life’ without your Messiah, Ritchie. The quality of Purple with or without him is up to each individual listener. You can’t Preach someone’s ears to hear what you want them to hear. Your Truth is Yours alone. Those whom agree are on their own due to their own taste, just as those whom don’t. Constantly hammering whether or not Purple is Purple is truly asinine……probably due to lack of Oxygen to the brain. I advise you to take a Deep Breath and hold it for at least 10 minutes, while listening to ‘Son of Alerik’…..
Cheers
December 27th, 2010 at 23:05Btw, it must have slipped my mind but……
Today I read about a new Tommy Bolin book.
I dont know if the author is right in hnis mind because he also wrote a book about GRUNGE and how wonderful that was.
But would love to have it anyway.
It seems that it might add some nice touchees to my DP library.
I was meandering again, sorry……
Is it true Bolins real familyname is Erickson?
That he is half Swedish/half Syrian?
Wasnt the name of the Swedish fc also Erickson?
Very common name or family?
Somehow I always thought Tommy had an Indian/Cherokee/Sioux/whatever side.
Or was that to give his aura some more cachet?
Recently I more and more came to love his songs on which he also sang.
The jazz rock stormers like the one with Combam does not really touch me that way.
Songs like Alexis, Dreamer, Brother Brother and most Private Eyes are so lovingly smooth.
Hello Again always has been one my favourite ballads.
Tommy is no Ritchie but he sure had a lot to offer.
Tommy, R.I.P.
Btw, what happened to OTR and Jurgen?
Did they completely vanish?
Stupid and naieve me was longing for a studio effort.
Maybe they realised they never would match the classics?
Mark
December 28th, 2010 at 02:06@ 65
Why dont you use my real name?
December 28th, 2010 at 20:25“Thomas Richard Bolin was born on 1st August 1951 in Sioux City Iowa. His father Richard was of Scandinavian descent and his mother Barbara was of Syrian.”

Eriksson is a very common name in Sweden. Bolin isn’t unusual either, although not as common as Eriksson.

It reminded me of Blackers and Babs.
And the dog was called Babs as well, I seem to remember.
December 29th, 2010 at 02:26Come on guys!
Good Jürgen just jammed a little with his old uncle pals (Gillan, Paice and Glover) he grew up with them!, his father’s relationship with the band it’s apart. Say, if your father has a fight with your uncles, will you hate them?
On the other hand, RB it’s a great composer and performer, but a band it’s a whole, so I do believe that SM fits better in the band nowdays, it makes them shine bright!.
Remember DP today it’s a band with it’s place on Rock and Roll history, they’re not trying to impress as a new band, it’s clear that they enjoy doing their work!, and they do that amazingly!
I like RB a lot but I don’t miss him, It’s always better to live the present the best that you can, instead of trying to force the past when it doesn’t fit anymore in the present.
Cheers!
