Ian takes about things happening live – saw them 2019?- they lost power on Steve’s side of the stage – Roger & Paicey improvised a little jam – very cool !

Yup, Kidpurple, very much like I thought too, Steve had to permanently get off the train for Janine, as the others didn’t want to stop it for even just a while for fear of not getting the steam engine running again (at their age a perfectly reasonable and realisitc concern).
And you can also detect in Ian words a little the realization that Steve’s more cerebral approach to guitar playing and songwriting had run its course within the confines of the Purple sound. And that’s not a knock: Had Simon recorded eight albums with DP, then Steve would have sounded fresh too as indeed he did on Purpendicular, an album bristling with new ideas and rediscovered joy in making music. Plus Steve went out on a high with Whoosh! in my opinion (I’m not counting Turning To Crime as his last major contribution – not because I think it is a bad album for what it is, but because it was chiefly the result of pandemic circumstance as opposed to free artistic choice).
