But the world being what it is, it can‘t be long before certain elements and usual suspects, disfigured Tolkienesque creatures emerge from the lands of the ice and snow … DINOs (Deep Purple fans in name only) them all!
That was a good short & sweet post, revealing a few rumours that have now been “myth-busted” lol !
And possibly why I like SpaceHog so much, is because of the humour found in their lyrics, often twisted around truth, so something transferred from DP into their songwriting perhaps. Too-bad they quietly called-it-a-day imo.
It doesn’t matter what genre the artist works in, but if there is no humor in her works, I’m not interested in it today. Maybe in my youth I valued pathos more (although I always held good humor in high esteem), but after more than half of my life, I began to look at things differently.
I am sorry to say that the law of gravity is taking its toll on Ian’s beer habits.
Have fun guys and have a amazing tour of your new album. 👏👍💪
Peace ✌️
Gillan’s great wit and humor is a prime factor. The reason so many of those rumors proliferate is because of the extraordinary things that actually did happen with DP that no one would believe, if it weren’t for the fact they’re all documented.
A lot of musicians aren’t really humorous – I’ve had death stares so often when I played some novelty little ditty on bass (admittedly, something I copped from Ritchie who didn’t only have fans with it either –> Purple getting thrown off the Cream tour) in the middle of an otherwise unrelated song or made freaky announcements: “The next song involves a German U-Boat lost in the Irish Sea. It was ony the second one built. Very little is known about the fate of U 2. But with or without it, we’re still gonna play the song now.” (And we would then proceed to play U2’s With Or Without You to an either baffled or bemused audience.)
I can’t help it, I have to take the piss sometimes. Prolonged earnestness drives me nuts.
@10 Everyone wittier than everyone else.)) Funny story, indeed. Needless to say that U2 are made to be the stuff of the jokes. Heck, even Beavis and Butthead were joking about them.
It is a fine line indeed with ‘humour’ in music as it also is with anything else. And as Frank pondered amusingly, does humour belong in music? Like most things in life, a time & place & many other aspects as to the timing, subject matter, situation etc etc. I do agree though, we have to laugh at times & I couldn’t imagine life without it. Cheers.
Yeah, Purple were and are always witty, unlike that other band lacking a certain lightness in its aeronautical capabilities …
