Tony Carey, J.R., and Formula 1
Tony Carey is back from his cancer woes and have started a new project with J.R. Blackmore. They have teamed up with a metal frau Ela and recorded a song called Silver Arrows (Racing On). The project is billed as EBC Racing Team and the song is dedicated to the 2010 re-entrance of the Mercedes-Benz into Formula 1 racing world (Silver Arrows — Silberpfeile — being the old nickname of the Mercedes-Benz racing cars). Music was written by J.R., while Tony wrote the lyrics and accomplished production duties.
In 2004 Tony had his first contact to the world of Formula One by performing at a charity event during the Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in Germany. He performed a solo set and later was together on stage with the band of Eddie Jordan (owner of a F1 team at the time) for David Bowie’s Heroes.
You can listen to the song and watch the video on EBC Racing Team’s website.
Thanks to BraveWords for the info.
Pretty cool I guess. What a shame they didn’t do it as OTR, attached to a RECORDING PROMO…..
I guess they decided they needed a Real Chic at the front instead of a Poofy Wanna be Chic….LOL.
Cheers
February 22nd, 2010 at 17:51Sounds like it could´ve been a suitable song for Joe Lynn T. Right up his alley!
February 22nd, 2010 at 18:10Read this “I guess they decided they needed a Real Chic at the front instead of a Poofy Wanna be Chic….LOL.”
February 22nd, 2010 at 20:55GET A LIFE.
What a great sound. Very catchy, good playing and singing. Why spoil it with JLT.
February 22nd, 2010 at 21:15JLT probably turned it down……….originality aint really his thing……..
Although give it a few years and know doubt he can incorporate into a tribute band
February 23rd, 2010 at 09:00As I said on an other thread, appearantly its JLT bashing time again.
Ofcourse I do the same……
But whats the difference…..
Yep….
Taste…..
And a good working brain.
February 24th, 2010 at 14:53Sounds good. JLT would of done a nice job if he did the vocals. Tribute to the masters of all motor cars–no car company can match MB’s history.
February 24th, 2010 at 20:43I dont call it JLT bashing………
He does what he does best……….a class tribute act………
February 25th, 2010 at 08:50hi y’all.
you guys are amazing. seven posts, and all of them either bashing
or defending joe.
get a LIFE.
tracy, homophobia is REALLY ugly, number 1. number 2, I’ve never met
a LESS gay person than Joe. How bout giving it a rest?
Joe didn’t sing it cause I didn’t ask him to – this is a german project
about a german driver and german cars; everybody involved lives here in
germany.
and yeah, joe woulda sung the SHIT out of it.
stay well – TC
February 25th, 2010 at 16:28What’s the difference????
Wit my friend, and relevance. My point was relevant being that this ensemble was an OTR pair, and they are doing an original song together instead of with OTR.
Seemed fitting to me….
Cheers
February 25th, 2010 at 22:09Childish and ridiculous comments about JLT are almost always down to either
Tracy or Rascal(still hiding behind a “funny nickname”), I wonder why: backstreet criticism & rock police-snobbery is right up their alley, nothing to do with wit or relevance…maybe they are two of those frustrated & bitter ‘musicians’ who never quite made it, not even close!!!
Nice try again guys, dogs bark but the caravan keeps on rolling!
Thanks for getting the topic sorted out, Mr. Carey…
Cheers
February 27th, 2010 at 18:26Well, maybe I was a bit harsh on the ‘usual suspects’…it’s just tiring to read those moronic comments time after time, show some class guys!!
Take care

Hi Teun
Thanx for joining the parade.
Cant you ask Joe to write something once in a while?
I dont care sticking it out for him or defending like you said.
But I d like to read some funny comments from him too.
Get a life?!
You are including the defenders?
Get a lijf yourself!
Succes met je gezondheid, mate!

February 28th, 2010 at 20:07I wasnt aware I had criticised OTR……….I actually said it was a ‘class act’
Until OTR record some original material how can they be considered to be anything more than a ‘tribute act’?
Lets hope those wheels dont fall off……..dogs can bite too………
March 1st, 2010 at 09:12Wheels?
Dogs?
Huh?
I must admit I have not always been very sharp concerning rememembering who said what and how.
I understood that some people here who later on kinda got into a anti purplepriest mode used to back me up years ago….
Its this I think….
Without pictures I never really get into associating nicks with real people.
So regards to everyone who tried to see me in a objective light.
March 1st, 2010 at 15:05No criticism here. Just a perspective and opinion with a little sarcastic twist. I only suggested what I believe would have been a good approach for OTR to have taken, while adhering to the subject. I am consistent in my view. I maintain a strong advocacy toward OTR producing something Real. I would love for TC to return to OTR and work on a Record. My JLT Bashing if that is what you wish to call it, only pertains to his Persona that he exudes to the extreme that it bothers most. I have a great deal of respect for his Talent. Not the same goes toward his persona. As the Front Man, he is of course going to be judged more than the rest regarding that. It goes with the territory. If you are the Spokesman and up front lead in an endeavor, you must expect to be sized from all directions….
Cheers
March 5th, 2010 at 17:01I totally understand JR’s feeling about Formula One racing. It is much more theatrical and exciting than a lot of oval track competition. Those cars do scream as the drivers hammer through the ratios and the lyrics capture that imagery. Very well done.
What struck me was the phrasing during the guitar solo. JR sounds eerily like his father. He is not a clone–but there is a definite lineage there–a resemblance that comes through the slide and the high notes. The dynamics are very clear, just like the car approaching a turn, braking, then accelerating past the apex.
Very nice job.

“That it bothers most.”???!!!!
I would not think that this idea is something to be generalised.
I have a lot of criticism towards the man on the Lego guitar but thats about HIS PLAYING and NOT the way he dresses up.
I dont care about appearances as long the music is good.
I dont expect Gillan to look 30 years younger although I sympathise with people who thinks he should let grow it a bit longer.
I dont care Morse wearing the outfit a stereotypical neighbour does instead of the well dressed man In Black tends to do.
Am I Permitted to say he moves like spaghetti
The things I write about him are not half as bad as things I read somewhere else…..
Dare I…….?
Maybe next time……
March 6th, 2010 at 00:04…or, one COULD play in a third rate tributeband who do 2 gigs a year, & spend the rest of one’s spare time slinging shit on the people who has the focus- AND the talent to back it up- to pursue one’s OWN wishes…
March 6th, 2010 at 06:52not that anyone would ever bother waste one’s time on such things.
Priest, as I stated, the Persona is much more focused on the Frontman. His attitude and stage presence are as important as his singing. What he exudes on stage or during interviews is much more worthy toward the critical sense than let’s say, the Keyboard, drummer, bass or guitarist. Though each may have their own way on stage, the Frontman is who is watched and judged more based on their behavior.
Plus, I would have to differ with you in your statement about the music being good and the appearance being all you care about..
Too many times you have criticized Steve Morse for being too happy and Mr. Smiley Face. What has that got to do with his playing?????
JLT is arrogant on and off stage. He sings great. His singing takes a hit every time he speaks instead….
Cheers
March 6th, 2010 at 18:14Everyone has an opinion on Joe Lynn Turner. Some may not like his stage presence; others argue he fronted the most successful Rainbow line-up ever. Some may not like his demeanor, others suggest his voice has held up better than most. I feel he made the best post-Classic era Purple album bar none. Some would never accept any singer other than Gillan on any Purple album.
All irrelevant.
The topic here is the song “Silver Arrows (Racing On)”. Turner is not related to this project. What did you think of the MUSIC?
The song has a great hook and it stuck in my head for a long time. As a car enthusiast (I have a 1LE Camaro, an Indy 500 Official Truck and a couple of convertibles), it’s something I really relate to. If one is going to make a stretch to Turner, I got a bit of “Death Alley Driver” feeling from it (“One-hundred twenty-five, smokin’ on the turns…”)
But what really knocked me out was the guitar playing, which I found very clean and quite reminiscent of JR’s dad. Like Blackmore the Elder, JR has a grip on the idea that sometimes it’s not about playing a zillion notes a bar (à la Malmsteen), but *holding* a note from time to time and letting the harmonic feedback do the work. Very tastefully done. I was impressed.
Sometimes, as they say, it’s the notes you DON’T play.
Favorite lines:
The silver story born in 34
And golden Rudi ruled until the war
The engines scream, you can feel the power
225 miles an hour
GOOD STUFF!
Reminds me of a song my brother and I wrote:
Heading out on U.S. 50
March 7th, 2010 at 05:07Saw a flamin’ chicken going by
A Pontiac T/A 6.6
Doin’ near 95
Got tired of driving by his side
So I nailed the throttle to the floor
My Holley Carb’s sucking in oxygen
I’m doing ’bout one-four-five…
