All about melody and groove
Glenn Hughes appeared on the latest episode of the Iron City Rocks podcast, dated September 15, 2023.
In particular, Glenn mentioned that the new BCC album should come out in the first quarter of 2024, and a proper solo album is in his plans for some time that year as well.
I am an artist that must make new music. I mean, I insist — I hate that word ‘insist’, but every year I find myself with a new paint board of new songs. I’m getting ready next year, by the way — I am gonna do another Glenn album next year, the first one in nine years, ’cause it’s time to do it.
I don’t write about politics. I write about the human condition. I write about how are we feeling, what are we going through, are we going to get through this — you know, acceptance, staying in the present moment. This is the big thing for me. People call it woke, awakening, if you will… For me, it’s all about staying present in this moment right now, and I’m writing about that.
Thanks to Blabbermouth for the info and quotes.
I’m happy to know that GH will make a new solo album in 2024. Of all his projects, what I like most are his solo albums.
September 19th, 2023 at 12:12Hey Glenn, is it “woke”, or is it “awakening”??? Those are two VERY different things…

Never mind the historical glitch, the Iron City Rocks interviewer makes more than up for it by asking some really perceptive, empathetic & not just run of the mill questions like if Glenn was impressed by any pre-Mk III DP album (Glenn is honest and says he knew little of their music before joining) or if he found Jon’s left hand limiting his role as a bassist (he didn’t, but except in the very early days, Jon held back with his left hand to not get in the way of any bassist; he said himself once that he learned with DP that playing just with his right hand was often enough).
Was that a Freudian slip when Glenn referred to bands that stick to a too narrow script and said “I won’t mention any names” only to then interject “here I go again …”? DC – for no good reason really, his voice was never limited to just one style of music – seemed always very concerned that Whitesnake might not live up to their musical image. He once told Guy Pratt “not to forget” that he was “playing on a Whitesnake and not a Peter Gabriel album”. If you ask me, a little of Peter Gabriel’s eclecticism would have done DC no harm.
September 19th, 2023 at 23:16Good news is the release of the new album BCC. I mean personally as a fan of DP and the entire DP family. BCC the best that appeared, from the offer-catalog of the DP family together with : Rainbow, Gillan, PAL, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath (Era RJD and Martin Birch) Coverdale/Page… and the best of the old RnR school-tradition for the last 25 years. It’s a shame that Joe is no longer (musically, . even more creatively) in the band.
September 20th, 2023 at 05:22@4: What do you mean, “Joe is no longer in the band”?

I remember reading years ago Hughes stating he didn’t like MK 2 Purple, what he had heard of it at least. So I am not sure as to him saying now he didn’t know it at all. In fact I thought that Hughes was rather dismissive of Deep Purple back then. Who can tell, his memory wouldn’t be that reliable would it, all things considered. I have to enjoy the Coverdale comment to Guy Pratt. Although I do remember in the late 80’s Pratt getting a little too funky at times when playing live with Floyd. So there may be some merit in Ole Cov’s comment. Cheers.

Joe B is a great player, but he spreads himself a little thinly between all those projects and especially with BCC you can’t help but gaining the impression sometimes that Glenn has to drag him by his thinning hair to get him to do anything. And there is always that sobering perspective looming that Joe won’t find time to tour any of it anyway. To me, BCC seems like a “virtual band world” into which Joe B sometimes dives to just experience what it might have been like to work and tour with a veritable rock star like Glenn in the 70ies – minus the non-musical excesses of course.
The Dead Daisies seemed much more a real working unit to me as they toured extensively, but obviously Glenn’s heart wasn’t in it for a longer run.
Let’s see/hear how the new BCC album turns out – the preceding albums seemed a bit of a case of slowly diminishing returns to me, but I’m happy to stand corrected with this new release once it comes out.
September 21st, 2023 at 09:25According to Glenn Hughes, the new album (V) will be released on June 14th. The new Single (Stay Free) on 01 March 2024.
