Rainbow: A Visual Biography

rainbow visual biography

Another “visual” book pre-order — Rainbow: A Visual Biography by renowned Blackmorologist Jerry Bloom.

From 1975, through the eighties, re-activated in the nineties and a slight return in 2016-18, Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow took its fans on numerous journeys from the grandiose beginnings with Ronnie James Dio to the chart busting times with Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner.

And again in the nineties with Doogie White as lead vocalist, and finally stepping out for the last time in the twenty-first century for a handful of shows allowing a new generation of fans to have the opportunity of hearing Rainbow live on stage.

In this hefty tome Jerry Bloom charts Rainbow’s full career with great detail and information, along with a huge raft of superb imagery that covers the entire career.

Bloom documents the band’s history in a comprehensive timeline, that covers every facet of Rainbow from every angle. Aside from band photos, the visual element is enhanced with rare memorabilia and artifacts.

Evidently, it’s not the last time for Rainbow. They’ve got a few dates scheduled in 2023.

@1 LOL ! That’s OK…This is why we have revised editions available after the first printings sell-out !

Good to know that the Stratocaster & Marshall are going to have the cob-webs blown out-of-them !

And should RB be considering some new tubes for his amps, & what to place in there, there’s some awesome new-old-stock vintage Russian Tubes available for peanuts, circa 1968 on-wards from the Vostok Rocket factory…They go by the designation “6n2p-ev”, ( they’re a military grade 12-AX7 with 85-110% gain, & made containing ultra rare earth materials including platinum & gold ) that sound just like Vintage Mullard’s. Highly recommended tubes, as I’ve just replaced the ones in my amp, that were the Yugoslavian made Telefunken long-plate ECC-83’s…And I think they sound better…And offer more consistent sensitivity & contour with your volume dial, string attack & technique, without over-stepping your wants & needs.

This would possibly see RB sounding similar to the pre-Burn albums…Pop them in Ritchie !

    Peace !

@1: Can’t find any info about that. What is your source?

    James Steven Gemmell says:

@3 I can’t disclose that, but I should have written “tentatively”. When I wrote “evidently,” my addled brain thought that I had also written “tentatively” in that sentence. I don’t mean to sound cryptic. I probably shouldn’t have posted that. Sorry. -JG

    RB says:

Sorry, but I really can’t get excited about this, I find Bloom knowledgeable but his writing style does nothing for me.

@5 The book is titled “a visual biography”. So hopefully that means less writing and more pictures! Especially from the Dio era.

    RB says:

@2 Ritchie hasn’t used Marshalls since the early to mid 90s, he uses Engl. If he does do some Rainbow gigs it’ll no doubt be as lacklustre as the other recent performances.
