Waaaaay out there
This gentleman going by the online moniker Börje Unchained definitely has an unchained imagination. He records instrumental covers of metal songs as if they were written and performed by another metal band. He went all out for Smoke and did it in no less than 6 different styles: Testament, Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Slipknot, and Tool. And by the way, the dude is looking for a singer…
Yet again it’s time to check out how things would have gone in a parallel universe. Or in 6 different parallel universes. What if Tool made Smoke on the water? What if Metallica wrote it? Slipknot? Well I visited a few alternative timelines just so you guys won’t have to. I listened these songs there and they were all hits there and I brought them home with me. Check ’em out. Peace and love! ☮️❤️
It ain’t everybody’s pint of lager, but enjoy if it’s yours!
I think that I am one of the few heavy metal fans who frequently posts here. Metallica & Pantera are among my yop 10 bands. So I may be alone here in saying that this is a pretty cool project and would like to hear what he does with real singers. For those of you who metal is not your cup of tea, hopefully you can at least appreciate the breadth of influence that Deep Purple has had on the last 50 years of hard rock & heavy metal music.
September 25th, 2022 at 02:39Deep Purple denying that heavy metal is one of their grandchildren is like eggs denying they have anything to do with omelettes. You may not always like how your grandchildren turn out, but the DNA is there.
I like the Tool version best, but that is probably because they are the only band of the ones named above where I can actually listen to a CD in one go. And even that means work for my brain cells, they need to process it. I haven’t yet listened to their most recent album even though it has been lying in my heap of “CD’s bought, but not yet heard” for a long time.
September 25th, 2022 at 22:12@1 There’s no doubt about the influence of DP, & how it resonates among many around our little globe ! And no doubt Borje has some skills & is making a name for himself, which is awesome, I wish him all the best. I look forward to the day when his successes then allow him to open the door to his own imagination, & he gets some original material down. We all learn from those that come before us, so I hope he can develop his own ID successfully.
That said, many people make a successful living essentially playing other folks stuff, & in this world, if you’re making a living doing what you want, & you’re happy, who am I to criticize ???
Peace !
September 25th, 2022 at 23:39Uwe @2….yes I am with you re Tool. Very intricate, complex music with intelligent lyrics by very skilled virtuosos. After Purple, they are my favourite band – so much depth to their work.
September 26th, 2022 at 18:30Well, this thread has at long last incentivized me to finally give that “most recent” (2019) Tool album ‘Fear Inoculum’ a belated listen. It’s pleasant, melodic, well-made music, just don’t listen to it if you’re trying to wean yourself off your depression! ; – ) If I heard this together with Porcupine Tree and Radiohead in rotation for 24 hours, only this track could resuscitate me …

September 26th, 2022 at 22:32The aftereffects of my rekless nightly Tool-listening are already making themselves felt: I caught COVID! (If truth be told, last week’s marriage celebrations of my stepdaughter might have something to do with it as well. Then again, she is a Tool fan and so is her hubbie!)
I was already beginning to get worried why I havn’t caught it yet. Now I finally feel a part of the crowd.
September 27th, 2022 at 14:14Uwe @6,
Best wishes for a quick recovery.
As far as this Waaaaay out there? With all due respect, no thanks. ;>

I’m doing better already, danke, I’ve had four COVID shots and one flu shot recently, I mean WHAT ELSE can you do? Running on three cylinders and lots of sleep (15 hours in one go, I only slept longer when I had the swine flu!), but it could be a lot worse. Whenever I feel sick, I just go into comatose hibernation.
And Slade blaring in the background (the new live box) puts me in a good mood! “Eat an apple everyday, the doctor has got to keep away.”

September 29th, 2022 at 15:53Bananas and Abandon reissues. Are them in the way? Stolen from my car and impossible to find. Is there a chance for a re-release, maybe with live and outtakes? Cheers
