Bring your flight jackets

Ian Gillan was interviewed for the Palm Beach Post in anticipation of resuming the touring activities in Florida later this month.

If there is one thing that is true about Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan, it’s that not everything he says is true.

“Somebody once asked me, ‘Are you a truthful person?’ I said yes — except when I’m doing interviews,” Gillan said with a sly chuckle.

Hard to believe that someone who so passionately played Jesus could be anything less than honest.

Nice interview, good job to stay away from the same old storyline of Machine Head, SOTW and so on 🙂

I don’t know about you guys but I am really curious to see what setlist is going to be. With two new albums since the last show it is going to be tough on them picking and choosing the set list. That’s the problem with a band like this, so many great albums and great songs that I believe at this point it’s going to be very difficult to choose. Can’t wait!

These shows would be a great chance to go beyond Machine Head ( apart from Highway Star and SOTW ) and shake up the set.

They could toss The Well Dressed Guitar & replace it with parts of the TTC closing medley.

7&7 Is would make a good 1st encore followed by And The Address.Long Way Round would be a great opener.Nothing At All would be a lot of fun, too.
Just imagine the dropped jaws if the Purps did Man Alive/Perfect Strangers/Fools…….What a trio of powerful tunes for the die-hard fan !

George #2 I agree! Every new album makes the choice for the setlist harder, especially given the quality of the Ezrin albums – you could programme a whole concert just with material from these. How about an hour of Morse era (interval), an hour of Mk 2, and an extended encore of covers medley? Yeah, I know, I know, too much to ask from septuagenarians! They’ll do it their way, it will be great, can’t wait. [And my brother is a huge BOC fan: their recent album is excellent, too!].

The setlist they could come up with could be amazing or they might not want to take a chance to make it too much of a major change. The combinations are endless. I was thinking the other day wouldn’t it be cool to celebrate the 35th anniversary of The House Of Blue Light, play the beginning of Woman from Tokyo and after Steve and Don go back and forth when Ian kicks in with the snare drum go right into Call of the Wild followed by Bad Attitude or dare I say Mad Dog! I know this would use about 10 – 12 minutes of valuable stage time but for hardcore fans I think they would love it. Whoosh is a great album and I hope there are at least 3 or 4 songs played live from it. We will know soon.

I think you guys are asking way too much!

It’s gonna be the setlist from 2019/2020 with 2 songs from Whoosh and maybe two from Turning to crime.

I have to say that I’ll be happy if they manage to play 1h40 after all this time off and with a 76 years old singer !
