If it ain’t got the swing

Yet another cover of Smoke, this time swinging jazz style. Description claims it to be a ‘1920s cover’. We’re no experts in intricacies of early jazz, but to our editorial ears this sounds more like 1940s. Anyways, enjoy!

Robyn Adele Anderson — Vocals
Oscar Williams — Piano
Kim Hawkey — Banjo
Tom Jorgensen — Drums
Steve Whipple — Bass
Aaron Johnson — Clarinet
Peter Lin — Trombone

Thanks to Jim Collins for bringing this to your attention.

There’s that early riff, ha ha! Wonderful version, really enjoyed that. Old old school, can’t beat that. Cheers.

I really like it too. But the arrangement is a bit lifted off this here:

Anyone remember how Purple used to have this running over their PA at gigs shortly before they went on? Of course, with Herr Harris having fallen mightily into disgrace, those days are over, but we may still listen to it here.

Speaking of SOTW covers: May I herewith reveal the CUTEST VERSION ever? Brought to us by the man who wielding the sticks went from King Diamond to Motörhead to ze Scorps. An avid Ian Paice fan btw.

“Smoooooke on the waaaaater – they’re flying in the sky …” – priceless.

No doubt an early – to lend a Klaus Meine phrase – “rock believer”.

This song is eternal and every generation will have a go so there is no harm as the main song is still the holy grail.

No problem with homage from other genres. That is save for “Rap” which is not music. Pure white noise.

    Peace,

Musically this is a nod to the earlier Carlos Lyra composition & Maria Moita isn’t it? That is how I hear it, plus Smoke & also the early 2oth century of course. Cheers.
