And the hits keep coming..
Ear Music have released another video from the upcoming Turning To Crime; this time, it’s The Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu.
They’ve collected excerpts of all the songs into a single video as well.

👍nicely done, I’m enjoying this!! Is every song GREAT? no, but every song is interesting and fun, the way it was intended I think! Congrats for not being afraid to do something different, I hope I’m never too old to learn to appreciate something like this. Having heard a recent interview from a St. Louis radio station Gillan said with the exception of a few Florida dates in Feb 2022 they will tour the US in 2023! They aren’t done yet 🙂 🤟🎶🎶
November 25th, 2021 at 11:54I think what people need to do is to watch the Roger Glover interview to understand that is just a fun album as they can’t write songs as a group during COVID lockdown. So please just enjoy it and don’t compare it anything else. It’s going to be a one off for sure as Roger said they will do another DP album.

It always comes down to ones personal taste, as in anything in life. That early rock ‘n roll period produced some pretty boring songs & there are a few here indeed. It is what it is & predictably Creams White Room is the Creme de la Creme. I don’t mind the 7 & 7 is song, obviously a decent tune originally. Shape of Things has always been a good song, I need to hear more of it, vocals etc. Some of these tunes don’t suit Gillan’s voice, but it is only rock ‘n roll isn’t it. Green Onions is always good for a jam etc. Enjoy Airey’s honky tonk piano on a few tunes, classic! Cheers.
November 25th, 2021 at 20:17And the hits keep coming 1,2,3…followed by the number four “Jenny Take A Ride !”
November 26th, 2021 at 07:45Roger singing lead vocal on The Battle Of New Orleans is interesting!
November 26th, 2021 at 08:27What a great little album. Not every cover works but when they do… it sounds like Deep Purple having fun! I love Oh Well and Dixie Chicken (surely one of the greatest songs ever written). Gillan sounds great throughout and Paice is inspired not forgetting the huge keyboard and piano sound on this album. Its all rather good!
November 26th, 2021 at 10:40What a ugly song The Battle Of New Orleans..
November 26th, 2021 at 15:35@2 Adel Faragalla I don’t know how you have the nerve. Here’s a few quotes from you regarding this album from this site:
“People can do what they like as it’s a free world but why drag the DP name and history into a cover album. They are using the name to sell the record and please the record company.
This album was the kind of album that Ian Gillan used to do as a side project.
This is very sad in my opinion and can it get any lower for the band.
I rest my case”
“When the fans gets excited about a band doing a covers album then you know that one of the 3 pillars of classic rock along Zeppelin and Sabbath has turned into a tribute band.
Sorry guys get real. This is a side project and the band name and brand of DP could be damaged for sure.
Yes they have nothing to prove but they have a lot to lose.
All they had to do is release it as a bonus CD with a new release of Whoosh”
“…..why mess with the reputation and the history of the third biggest band of the early 70s to justify loosening your rusty muscles and vocal cords.
November 26th, 2021 at 16:24This is an Ian Gillan side project like and to drag the rest in it and name under the DP brand is so serious and no one can tell how this will go down in the history of the band.”
This is a really good album,it sounds like a band having fun which unfortunately tends to be missing from music nowadays. The actual playing on the album is superb played by musicians who are still top of their game long may it continue.
November 27th, 2021 at 01:45Have to say I agree with Black Sheep. I am so disappointed with this album, fun or otherwise. Not a true DP album for me.
November 27th, 2021 at 14:30As someone said, “it’s a matter of taste”. I have never been into 50s R&R, especially the piano driven sound. Looking forward to their 60s & 70s covers.
November 27th, 2021 at 16:24My 1st reaction to the whole album is no surprise. I loved everything when Don plays the beast. As I said I don’t like the sound of piano whereas their is no more pleasant sound to my ear than the Hammon organ. I hope that 7&7, Oh Well, and the medley make in into the live act when I see them in Tampa in Feb. Tastes aside the album is well produced, the musicianship is excellent, and it sounds like the band was having fun.

November 27th, 2021 at 19:19Off course my initial reaction was what I wrote and I can never take this back as it’s on record as you posted.
But having head and seen the interviews I think it does make sense for the guy in DP to do this album.
And to be honest it’s done very professionally and their approach is spot on.
But true I should not have the nerve to write the above.
Peace.
I Agree with every word @8Black Sheep wrote citing what @2Adel Faragalla said :

And I also agree with @10 Doug said :”Not a true DP album for me.”
Yesterday, we had a meeting . A good meeting of few good old friends to listen the album and share comments : Five guys . All +50 Years Old. “MUSIC CONNOISSEURS” and Deep Purple followers… Well, we stopped listening before it was over. Among bad Jokes and bitter comments, no one agreed or liked the concept behind this album, or the sound , or the performance. We stop there. We Forgot about the issue and started listening other groups and erased the bad experience that was listening TTC.. Sad.
November 27th, 2021 at 20:34Did y’all catch Don doing the SOTW riff in the middle of Rockin’ Pneumonia? I love their take on Shapes. It’s closer to the Jeff Back version on Truth than the Yardbirds version. Steve nails the solo.
Something funny about a couple of Brits singing about a USA battle victory during the War of 1812.
November 27th, 2021 at 20:52@13 Adel Faragalla Fair play and good for you, it takes a big man to hold his hands up and say he got it wrong.
November 28th, 2021 at 09:21I enjoy .. “Jenny Take A Ride!” and “Let The Good Times Roll” guys are brilliant. Deep Purple musical aristocracy. The first star “Turning To Crime album”definitely Ian Gillan
November 28th, 2021 at 13:30@17
Agreed. All the guys are great on the album, but Gillan is unbelievable. He even threw in some of his signature high-pitch howls that he was doing less and less since “Now What?!” (understandably so). The one on “Jenny Take a Ride” caught me completely off guard, a big grin sprouted on my face!

Battle of New Orleans was a huge skiffle hit for Lonnie Donnegan – as big as Rock Island Line. Lonnie’s success got people playing guitars – and the rest is history.
It is not the first time that the boys have sung about the family.
Mary Long is partly about Colonel – actually General – Pakenham’s eight times great nephew Lord Longford, conflated with Mary Whitehouse.
November 29th, 2021 at 10:07Well at last a video you don’t have to ashamed of if you mention your favourite band to some kids (KAYBD video anyone?) … Rockin’ Pneumonia is a real fine video with lots of funny hints regarding the band’s history. I really like it a lot. And the song is good fun too. As is the album. Cheers! Well done.
