Great story, I never heard that before.

Very similar scenario to Keith Moon getting the Who gig, although that was at a concert in front of all & sundry & probably a little more physical etc. Didn’t Ringo get the Beatles gig stealing it from another drummer? Well it would depend on who’s side of the story is being told. Drummers eh, a dastardly lot indeed! Cheers.

Great Story! The MK I Line up is still my second favorite Line up after MK II. Those first 3 albums still get a lot of playing in my house.

@Leslie > Ian Gillan’s, too. He loved the Mark I lineup.

It’s too bad that Rod Evans disappeared from the music scene 40 years ago. He had a magnificent voice, albeit it in a very narrow range. If he had played bass or another instrument, perhaps he would’ve been retained and used by Purple much in the same way Glenn Hughes had a dual role.

It’s unclear to me, was Ritchie by himself when he picked up Little Ian? He really can’t have been because he didn’t have a driver’s license back then to ride Nick’s Jag. AFAIK, Ritchie only learned to drive once he lived in the US.

I still cannot imagine Blackmore driving today. Didn’t driving freak him out or something along those lines. Still, we can change & he may very well be driving today. I imagine Nick Simper would have been driving back then when Paice was picked up. Didn’t Paice say Nick Simper’s Jag? Well at least I presumed he meant that. Cheers.

It was Nicky Simper’s Jaguar. Ritchie didn’t get a car til around the recording of Perfect Strangers and it was a black Mercedes Benz.
