Breaking the Band
US cable/satellite channel REELZ will premiere a Whitesnake documentary as a part of their Breaking the Band series, on August 22 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
Whitesnake was the brainchild of former Deep Purple frontman David Coverdale. They appeared on the English music scene in 1978 with raunchy lyrics and a big blues rock sound. Over the next 12 years Coverdale’s grit and determination went on to drive the band to become one of the biggest successes of the “Hair Metal Age”. But there were plenty of casualties on the way with a host of lineup changes as Coverdale ruthlessly searched for the winning formula.
The documentary was produced by ITV in the UK and judging by the casting call, features reenactments along with archival footage.

August 9th, 2021 at 22:48Plenty of casualties on the way!! The most suffering casualties must have been David’s balls. I remember him always rubbing his genitals on the stage, which was so-oo-oo embarassing to watch. A grown man!

August 17th, 2021 at 22:17Just got to the 2nd commercial break and it is not too bad so far considering that they only have 44 minutes or so for the whole story.
August 23rd, 2021 at 00:27Well, it went downhill pretty quick after the 2nd break. There was decent detail early about Dave in DP, and then WSnake up until Ready and Willing. Nothing about Come and Get It. Little about Saints/Sinners other than Guitar Player Issues, and then a decent amount about the Slide it In era with the Business (UK vs US) and the band issues. A bit of time devoted to the MTV era and maybe one of Tawny’s last interviews where she basically admits to taking over the Business side of things and making band decisions. And then the end of the band, the Page Coverdale album, etc.
Not too bad all things considered for the short length, especially the first 2 segments. Was like a good appetizer in the beginning, but then the following courses were a let down except for maybe a side dish. I would say it is worth watching, but more so for people that only casually know the Slide It In and later era.
