One instead of one
Another TMZ moment involving another two Rainbow vocalists. For a number of years, Joe Lynn Turner was the singer in the Sunstorm project, a brainchild of Frontier Records president Serafino Perugino. Since 2006 they have released five albums with JLT on vocals, however in December he announced on Facebook that he is leaving the project, and a few days ago Frontiers announced that the new album will feature another Rainbow man Ronnie Romero, and is due out in March 2021. For whatever reasons, JLT is not happy about it and let the world know about it with a carefully worded rant:
Dear Fans,
Thank you for your attention and concern, as I felt it is necessary to release this second statement to further clarify and explain my position… I believe, the true facts of my personal decisions must be stated more directly.
I made an original statement in December where I kindly and respectfully to all parties involved, tried to explain the reasons for my departure from the Sunstorm Project. My statement was very clear, however, with the Frontiers official media release of the new Sunstorm and the accompanying statements, in my opinion, I see a definite attempt to twist my words to justify the effort to promote this new release of Sunstorm, show their autonomous power for any and all creative and business endeavours and prove the fact that no moral or ethical considerations exist as long as the corporation holds the legal trademark…
So there you have it, another little tempest in a teapot.

January 19th, 2021 at 09:34Good song that would’ve suited JLTs voice perfectly. Romero is a great singer, but IMHO his voice suits the «Dio-era Rainbow style» much better. This would’ve been a great JLT AOR tune.
Btw, can’t believe all the hate displayed here on THS against JLT??! He’s, like most «rockstars», a «motormouth», but that’s just a part of the game. I bet he is a nice guy, give him a break and get over it!

January 19th, 2021 at 22:06@4 could not have said it better!! and also a pretty good tune as Ronnie Romero does a very nice job, JLT can sing as well, but has a hard time accepting the fact he’s not been relevant in rock music for a looooooong time!!
January 19th, 2021 at 22:28JLT is a fine, if not hugely original singer. S&M was not a bad album (I even have all his work with Fandango) and at Hammersmith 30 years ago his godawful stage raps did not overpower his musical contribution (but came close). He’s also a Yank and – predicament that it might be – very little can be done about that, especially when he stops singing und speaks.
Is there a specific reason why Robert Romero has all of the sudden turned ubiquitous? Rainbow, Lords of Black, Vandenberg, Michael Schenker, Sunstorm … I think he’s overrated. Give me Luke Spiller (The Struts) anytime if you want a charismatic lead singer from a younger generation.

January 20th, 2021 at 05:41The usual JLT bashing on this forum. For AOR his voice is more suitable than Ronnie Romero’s voice, for sure. Ronnie R. is good for Dio material (but not as good as the master) and I think he fits well in MSG.

January 21st, 2021 at 13:18I always thought King of Dreams was a great tune and an atmospheric song. And The Cut Runs Deep really rocked. Not everything he wrapped his vocal chords around deserves to be dismissed. Likewise Stone Cold and Stranded. Can’t Get No Release is another favorite.
The Mothers Army stuff was worthwhile too.

January 23rd, 2021 at 21:00Have a lot of time for Ronnie Romero too although he does seem to be everywhere! He’s like Joel Hoekstra, I don’t know when these guys sleep, they’ll definitely be in a project together soon.
You can say what you like about S&M, but you can clearly hear that Blackmore’s heart was in it during the recording. It’s not his most adventurous playing, he’s not pushing boundaries, but he sounds … playful, even content – an unnatural state for him. ; – )
