No reason why there shouldn’t be

Whoosh! streed advertisement, as spotted in Kiel, Germany; photo: Tobias Janaschke

Ultimate Classic Rock has a Whoosh feature built around an interview with Paicey. The takeaway message is that despite And the Address being intended to close the full circle, this might not be the last Deep Purple album after all:

It might not be the last record. We’ve got all of this dead time. We know we can’t do any concerts until sometime next year. Now, 10 or 11 months, is a long time for musicians to sit around doing nothing when they could do something.

So, it wouldn’t surprise me – and I know there’s little mutterings going on – that we might get together towards the end of this year and see if we can write some more stuff. If we can, if we’ve got some ideas that we like, then there’s no reason at all why there shouldn’t be another record.

Those parts of the interviews always bring a huge smile in my face. As much as I know how uncertain it is if we get to see Deep Purple live at all again because of the current situation, it’s nice to see this might also be the reason we may be getting even one more album. I think otherwise this would have been it…new album and the tour dates this year, I think Don Airey even said so in one of the interviews. If we are really lucky, we get the remaining tour dates AND another album… let’s hope for the best.

I’d love to see them put out another album. They’re clearly a band with plenty of creativity left in the tank, and being on such good form means that this is the most successful period since the reformation. They deserve having such success, I don’t know of any rock band (or even ANY band) that has been around so long and experienced such success so late in their career, or are even writing material so well (the closest to them in creativity is probably Uriah Heep, but they haven’t been so successful commercially, unfortunately). More power to Purple!

Whoosh! is such a good album that I hope they will reach the same level with their ultimate last album if it there will be one. It won’t be an easy thing to do. So I hope they don’t rush with it. Quality first.

    The long goodbye.
They will be recording and touring in their 90s
    What a band?
They are the best band around by miles.

One can only hope this may happen…. I surely do. They are still able to come up with some great music and expressing it through permanent recordings and putting out an album only makes perfect sense. Especially as Paicey says, they are stuck doing nothing else musically due to this BS pandemic. It’s time anyway that an album which features more GUITAR from Steve is done. The last few have been Keyboard driven albums (which is fine but…) and it would be nice to get one in that Steve shines on throughout. One good Hard Rockin’ album to go out with in accompany to the previous. A redo of Hey Joe would be a nice touch as well…. ANYTHING is Fine though as far as I’m concerned. Amazing place we are in right now where there is even speculation of a record being done. GOD will be answering my prayers… 😉

Whaaaooosh, great news, I hope I hope, there is another album coming.

And I hope the songs will be longer than on Whoosh….. ( to be honest….. songs are
to short and….. will be soon forgotten….. sometimes I sit and wonder, sometimes I just sit …….)

But as Roger said….. we live in hope !!!

Well, Roger is generally very optimistic about making albums, which isn’t a bad thing at all. At least, it would be a novelty if there will be another album without any touring to support the previous one. On the other hand there’s not much to do until next year when the first gigs are scheduled (for now). If they’re up for it, now is the time to do it. From Whoosh! Man Alive is my favorite tune. What an amazing atmosphere that one has!

Excellent news. Whoosh is a fabulous album and there is clearly life in the old dogs yet 🙂

Frankly, at this point of their career, I prefer them putting out albums with new music to hearing the umpteenth live rendition of, say, Space Trucking. I wish they would do a tour with just the More/Airey era stuff played – and four or five old chestnuts thrown in to keep the audience happy.

    Attila says:

@12: agreed. And what a music this is. Whoosh is getting better by every listen and already started off at a high mark. As far as album no. 22 is concerned, that is a done deal. The only issue they have to sort out, as Roger said, is to find a safe way to fly to Nashville. I’d surely lend them my private jet – if I had one.

One of best things that could happen in 2021 is Deep Purple’s 22nd studio album!!!

The virus will be here for about 4 more years, maybe we will get four more albums buy Deep Purple, before they hit their 80’s….Geesh!
