August 9th, 2020 at 22:50Sad news.
August 9th, 2020 at 22:51If the only album he ever produced was Machine Head,Martin Birch would have assured his place in the hearts and ears of rock fans the world over.
I hope Jon Lord is greeting an old friend.
he heard the recent Deep Purple album and then died (just kidding), Rest in peace Martin Birch. Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Rainbow are in mourning.
August 9th, 2020 at 22:52Sad News! R.I.P. Mr. Birch!
August 10th, 2020 at 00:19Thanks for all the great sounding records (and always mixing the bass up loud!), Martin, and I don’t mean just the Purple & Family ones. BรC’s Cรผltosaurus Erectus and Fire Of Unknown Origin are favourites as well.
Farewell to the “catalyst”, as the Purps christened him in the In Rock liner notes.
August 10th, 2020 at 00:47Sad news. Great producer and apparently great guy too.
August 10th, 2020 at 00:47Sad to hear this news. Martin Birch was a genius in the music studio & can be easily & favorably compared to George Martin of the Beatles. His work on albums by DP, BOC, WS, BS & IM lifted their music to a higher level & made their albums very special indeed.
August 10th, 2020 at 01:04My sincere condolences go out to Martin Birch’s family & friends. ๐ ๐๐โชโ
RIP The Legend

August 10th, 2020 at 07:04Great engineer and producer of some of the finest recordings in the history of rock music.
A name on so many of my favourite albums.
August 10th, 2020 at 07:39Sad day.
Was the engineering architect over some of my fav LPs of all time.
August 10th, 2020 at 07:58A huge contributor to the Purple family…
Catalyst? More than that.
August 10th, 2020 at 08:07First thought is Machine Head. RIP Martin.
August 10th, 2020 at 08:21One of the greats! May he RIP!
August 10th, 2020 at 09:40In terms of having an outstanding output on the founding records of hard rock and classic rock – no one could touch Martin Birch. His works are now pillars of this genre of music. Just take the string of these 5: In Rock, Made In Japan, Rising, Heaven And Hell and The Number Of The Beast – you can’t get much better than this. Plus they are a landmark of how the proper mixing should be done to sound brilliant. As Robert Fripp says on those sad occasions: “Travel safe, brother Martin”. Thank you for all the goods and sonic pearls that never cease to excite, ignoring the passing of time and advances of technology.
August 10th, 2020 at 09:45R.I.P…..Mr. Martin Birch……The producer of many great albums.
August 10th, 2020 at 12:23Habรญa sido productor de la pra.formacion de fleetwood Mac , r.ip.

Martin Birch was the first “record producer” I was actually aware of, followed by Purple’s previous producer, Derek Lawrence, who died just a few months ago. Very sad news.
August 11th, 2020 at 09:18What a loss.
On the other hand, he already left the building in a musical sense in 1992?
What was the reason he never ventured into producing again at such a young age?
Was he reallt able to retire on the basic of what he had done. Royalties?
August 11th, 2020 at 10:36DP family sad,..one best his production moment for me ? “Fool For You Loving”bass line by Neil Murray and David voice…R.I.P.
August 11th, 2020 at 14:51I once read that Martin experienced severe hearing loss early on which is why he never got involved in any remasters either. 25 years of hard rock sound engineering had taken their toll on the Wasp’s ears …
August 11th, 2020 at 15:19Epitaph: Martin Birch, the sound of the best live rock album of all time. Made in Japan
August 11th, 2020 at 17:02His production will stand the test of time. RIP Mr Brich or you never know he might be having one hell of party up there with the likes of RJD๐๐
August 12th, 2020 at 09:51RIP Martin Birch. One of the best producers in rock music ever. Seventies Purple, Rainbow with Dio, early Whitesnake and Black Sabbath with Dio: all exceptional good producing by this master.
