A rather interesting interview done with Ian Gillan in Australia in 1999. It is particularly interesting to see how well what he said about evolution of the band some 20 years ago has aged.

    Sorry Mr Gillan but the reason you did accidentally on purpose so you can fulfill the record company contractual obligation of recording 3 records. Its well documented but who I am to know better.
    Still I find it hard to take that album seriously. It’s an album recoded on vacation but it’s not a bad album at all.
    Maybe the new DP, ‘whoosh’ album is a reminisce of ‘accidentally on purpose’ .

    I sing Speed King at times in the morning. It gets my adrenaline going. Also, I love Accidentally on Purpose. Like Fireball it shows his (and Roger’s) different styles.

    Jon Lord said the reason he retired from Deep Purple was because “the singer never wants to go home”. Gillan claimed the incessant touring is what prompted him to submit a Purple resignation letter in 1972. But Purple may now be the most-traveled band in history.
