David Coverdale spoke to the Appetite for Distortion podcast clarifying his retirement comments from last week and he sounds like he’s not quite ready to retire yet:

Appetite for Distortion · David Coverdale’s Slow an’ Easy approach to Quarantine | Ep. 189

I was asked a question, and I just thought it was amusing to say, ‘Oh, what better age for the lead singer of Whitesnake [to retire] than 69? I can’t wait to design the t-shirts.’ That was just fun.

I hope I do get out and play. There’s nothing comparable to standing in front of 10, 15, 20, 30 thousand people and have them singing — a hundred thousand people we were doing in South America last year — singing along to every word that you wrote. Some of these people weren’t even born when those songs were released. There is nothing more fulfilling than that to an artist, to have an appreciative audience make you feel so uplifted. It’s breathtaking. I certainly hope to have that experience again. And if I can’t do the big stuff, then I’ll do the little stuff and do ‘An Evening With David Coverdale’ — of more acoustic-based conversations, a Q&A with me to find out ‘the real story of what happened.’

Thanks to Blabbermouth for the info and quotes.

Oh just make up your mind Mr Coverdale and move on.
Life is too short for people who never makes their mind up as they just waste all the time thinking whether to make their mind up.
Stay safe and keep happy everyone.
    Cheers

David’s live voice has been shot for a long time now. Studio recordings still sound good, as does his mid-range voice on the lockdown mini-videos.

I hope David will still go on tour, but keep focus on early Whitesnake and his Purple songs. Keep the rock/blues, and downgrade the high notes.

Mick Jagger had a heart attack and is nearing 80…….no chance of him retiring till near 100 yr’s. Keep rocking till you drop David, we all know that Lemmy would still be today.

Keep going David. There is no-one out there like you. People always moan about older stars and their voices being shot. Ignore that.

First and foremost, I wish David a speedy recovery and return to his natural environment …on stage.
David must not retire in his retirement as a heavy metal/ hair band singer. His way of singing falsetto has his voice destroyed He must return to his roots when he was the ultimate blues, ballad, rock singer, return of his a baritone mix Poul Rodgers and Tom Jones . To give back to the British rock roots from which he drew inspiration, an best old tradition / Purple, Zepp, Free, Company, Lizzy /. Very true I offer my apologies for my sarcastic remarkes.
I realy hope all the DP members never retires so they can keep us the fans happy for years to come.
One thing I might add neither Mike Jaggar or Paul MacCartney ever mentioned retirement maybe I guess they can still sell records and fill big arenas without playing the farewell retirement cards
    Peace and Love
    Keep safe

It has nothing to do with age, it has a heck of a lot to do with what David did to his voice and how he’s adamant to continue singing material that is no longer within his range. I know no other singer from his generation that is live as overstretched as he is.
