New website, cover art, and track listing for Whoosh!
The press release went down the wire today confirming release date for the new Deep Purple album Whoosh! as June 12. There is also a new website to promote the album.
The track listing is as follows:

The “mediabook” thingy shipped as part of in some release formats will include an hour long feature Roger Glover And Bob Ezrin In Conversation and the full live performance at Hellfest 2017, both on video.
[update Feb 29] Speculations are over. There are 30 seconds previews of each song available at your local Google Play store. Which confirms that And the Address is indeed a remake of the track from Shades of Deep Purple.

February 27th, 2020 at 21:06I’m a bit shocked at the silliness of the title,but as long as it’s better than Infinite,i don’t really mind.That,to me,was the most disappointing album Deep Purple have ever made.Too short,a pointless cover track,and only 4 great tracks .I was hoping for some longer tracks this time,but with the amount stated,it doesn’t look like it.Having said that,i await with great anticipation.I have to say,i’m not too keen on Bob Ezrin,he seems to limit the band’s flow.I can’t understand why Roger Glover doesn’t produce it.

At least Abandon and Bananas are off the hook for having the worse album cover.
That out of the way, I am damn excited. At 13 songs, there will certainly be some filler, but DPs filler is better than most bands best tracks.
And the Address and Dancing in My Sleep are tracks that certainly have my attention. Even if Dancing is a cover, it’s gotta be better than Road House Blues cover.
And the Address…. well, that’s gotta be DP covering DP right? Been done before with Bludsucker. Certainly possible.

February 28th, 2020 at 11:51@14: RG said many years ago that he didn’t want to produce the band’s own albums anymore because he wanted to focus on being a musician. Producer is also a job where you can run the risk of getting into arguments with the band members (look up what Steve has to say about working with Ezrin) and maybe that means that it can be difficult to produce when you are one of the band members.

Also sounds like he isn’t afraid to step on some toes, and the results show.

No doubt but I thought Now What?! was much more “deliberate” in ideas and the material was strong.Infinite was a letdown in terms of length and song writing.Some great songs not doubt,but I hope that this one “stretches out”more in length….to the length of Purpendicular.I hope for an album over 60 minutes and beside the title of the albums which is weird to say the least,I hope the material is stronger.I’m sick of the fillers and I don’t care about the likes of “Road House Blues ” and whatnot.

@22,that’s very interesting,and it does make a lot of sense.However,Roger Glover is a great producer,and he knows the band’s needs more than anyone.I think they should have arranged things amongst themselves.Watching the Infinite documentary,i got the impression that Bob Ezrin was stepping on their toes a bit,and preventing them from really letting go and expressing themselves.That’s part of the reason,for me,that Infinite is so disappointing.But clarity wise,it’s great production,and i hope it’s a great effort from everyone this time.A new Deep Purple album is always a special event,and i don’t think this will be their last album,this long goodbye stuff is a gimmick,they’ll be around for years yet!

February 29th, 2020 at 08:56If the new album is 75% as good as “inFinite” / minimum of two songs that remain for all time / I am SATISFIED. “inFinite” to me the best album after “Perfect Strangers” / four good songs “Time For Bedlam”, “All I Got Is You”, “The Surprising” / all over 2 million YouTube views only “Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming” has more from the Steve Morse era and of course the fourth song with “inFinite” “Birds of Prey”.

February 29th, 2020 at 10:10A producer can’t write the song for any band but he can channel the endless ideas into a meaningful song that sounds the best possible. So if the material is crap to start with the result will be like shinny car with no engine. Show me the music guys and don’t get fooled by the cover or the album title. The material in Now What and Infinite was very limited if you really dig down and get to the core of the songs. There are good songs average songs and then the weak songs but sadly nothing like Perpendicular or Bananas material.

I’m beyond pleased with this turn of events having enjoyed Infinite and Now What!? a lot. Someone said that there were only 4 Great tracks on Infinite. I’d agree (Time for Bedlam, Hip Boots, The Suprizing and Birds of Prey) but there are some really good ones around it and the only 2 tracks that I always skip now are Get me Out of Here and Roadhouse.
Id say most of the reunion albums (particularly pre 1993) are not brilliant track for track like the classic 70s Mark 2 output. My musical life is much richer for those 4 songs and I hope there are at least 4 songs on Whoosh that make my all time playlist.

March 1st, 2020 at 09:43Having listened to the track clips,i was really disappointed at first,then some of it really grew on me.I think Don Airey will be fantastic,as always,but where is Steve Morse?I hardly hear any guitars,Bob Ezrin has subdued the guitar sound,just like on Infinite.I don’t know why they use him.I get the impression this will be better than Infinite,but i’m still not expecting too much.A lot of the tracks are too short,i would prefer less,longer tracks.Ian Gillan himself once questioned the point of a 3 minute track,yet this album is awash with them!But i still can’t wait to hear it,this is Deep Purple,the best band of all time.

Sorry but judging by the samples of all tunes on Google Play, this album is sounding bland, flat and uninspiring so far. I so hope the samples dont reperesent the final full play.
Now What was an amazing album and Infinite had four or five interesting songs on it. However I am not excited by what I hear in those samples so far. Also really it pains me to say this, but Gillans voice is way, way past its best and thats in the studio, live it will be truly awful at this rate.
Sorry everyone, I love this band, all line ups, but this is not the way to go out kicking and screaming like the original pioneers of heavy rock should do.
It looks for sure that Ritchie has hung his boots up on live gigs now, at least I hope he has. There has been some sublime moments this last four years on the Rainbow gigs, but its also time for him to step back and let the legacy, the sheer volume of amazing work on record, film etc fly the flag now. Sad day when your heros can no longer turn you on with new stuff. Ahh well time to put on Made In Japan and appreciate what we have got 🙂

March 2nd, 2020 at 12:50Listening to these clips it is a continuation from the average last album. On first hearing no great melodies stand out. Is it just me or does Don Airey’s keyboards now dominate the sound? Rock is guitar led and I’m afraid Steve Morse has dropped down the pecking order in Ezrin’s production. Granted these are only short clips but a big disappointment. Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming!!

It’s only 30 secs.Alright… But I did not find anything different in the sound that really mark a difference with INFINITE. The same style of production that is limiting a band that still can do more. Much more than a bunch of short simple songs.What I did listen here and in Infinite has nothing to do with the greatness that the name of Deep Purple implied. “Now What?!” was a different album.. I had Variety, exploration, search of new musical bounderies.. All seems to be lost now. Maybe “The Surprising” , “Bird of Prey” can be a reminiscence of what DP deserve to be now.. But for me , IMHO, the new sound is the sound of how the producer thinks that a band of classic rock of the 70’s must sound now . He seems to forget the DP is much more than a simple classic rock band of the 70’s.. But well , now is 21st century and maybe I am nothing but a poor 21st Century schizoid man ….

Track 1 started off uninspiring and I thought – oh oh is this going to be a letdown??
Tracks 2,3, 5, 7, 8, 10 & 11 – Sounded pretty good and have potential. Keep our fingers crossed!
Tracks 4,6,9, &13 were ok but bland. Small hope these will be better all the way through
Track 12 – well its a cover of their own stuff so if you didn’t like it to begin with….. I thought it sounded pretty good.
Overall I think this album has some potential to be really good, but who knows – The Suprising came on after this clip on youtube and if I heard a certain portion clipped – I might not have liked it. SO really you need the whole song to comment. One thing for sure – No KILLER RIFFS so far!!

Well, I had a listen to those Whoosh snippets and I am not overly optimistic about how this album is going to turn out. I am trying to be objective here, so perhaps there are more gems and nice surprises hidden deeper in those tracks which will reveal themselves once the whole album is released.
I am not bashing the band, they have always been, are still, and will forever be my favourite group of all time. That said, I feel that what I am hearing so far is simply not up to their past standard. These previews seem almost to sound like leftovers from the cutting room floor of the Infinite album – the ideas that didn’t make it to that album. I really hope I am wrong.
At this point I believe it is best not to pass to harsh a judgment on this upcoming release – there may be some nice moments on the new record once we get a chance to listen to it in its totality.

March 4th, 2020 at 00:36Sorry guys but you build you hopes on a sand castle. The truth is when you get an album with lots of short songs thrown in then you know it’s a very relaxed album. The problem is people expects Machine Head or Perfect strangers but the truth is you won’t get that in a million years. The band is just doing what Ian Gillan comes up with so the days of jamming for hours to get a song are over. That album defiantly sounds like it was done in 3 days. Maybe Slaves and Masters is a fine album after all!!!!

I’ve already bought tickets for the forthcoming live shows and already feel I’ve made a mistake. Zero improvisation and competently ‘going through the motions,’ will most likely be the order of the day there, (as is the usual now). Feel gutted writing this as a fan of 40 years, but it is what it is.

Seems the snippets did more harm than good,which is probably why the record company had them removed. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them.
I am hoping that those snippets we had a chance to hear via Google, are only the raw bases of each song, and that additional instrumentation / soloing will be added in the weeks to come. Looking at those track lengths on Google, it makes no sense that what we heard could be the final product. I am cautiously optimistic that there will be further development of those ideas between now and the mid-June release.

March 6th, 2020 at 18:20@65,i’m afraid i have to agree with you too.Ian Gillan is an absolute legend,but his lack of taking things seriously,and ridiculous titles and lyrics are not funny anymore.Whoosh?What’s that all about?It’s a joke of a title for such a great,established band.You can’t take the album seriously based on that alone,it’s obviously slapstick.What the What?What the hell?What does that mean?Tracks which are way too short and will finish before they get going.It rules out any decent solos for a start.From the clips,no life in the tracks,almost talking rather than singing(again).Some did grow on me a bit,but maybe it was wishful thinking.Since the incredibly disappointing Infinite,this is a sad way for the greatest rock band of all time to finish.I was hoping for so much better this time,as this amazing band ruled the world once.

Hence the self isolation spaceman suit to attempt to protect oneself from infection. I’ve seen it on the tv news, people wearing protective coveralls walking the streets & spraying disinfectant in the streets…

There are 3 or 4 songs that sound really promising, and there are a couple others that sound might they might have some good potential, but the rest fall flat for me. Again though, this is based simply on quick listens of short excerpts. Hopefully – fingers crossed, the final product will contain some decent instrumental and solo passages.

I loved the clips from the very first listen. Musically they’re so diverse and full of energy. Gillan sings so relaxed and there seems to be so
much joy in it.
As for the solos, all of the clips are the vocal parts only, so how come that you dislike the album for “lacking the guitar solos” ? How could you listen to guitar solo during the vocal parts?
I’m more than excited even from this clips and it grows even more when I listen to it again and again.
No worries, these guys know what they do.
Looking forward to the full album and the first single.
March 10th, 2020 at 12:55My deep brethren, shouldn’t we all be thankful their nurses let them out at all for another recording? DP will never again record something that shakes the foundations of the music world, but remember that each and every album they record these days could be their last postcard. And a postcard it is, showing where the band is NOW – after five decades of faithful service to us that had its ups and downs. But I like that they are still around – and not conserved in amber like Led Zep. DP were always more sitcom than Academy Award, but I for one like(d) watching. And even a mediocre Purple album is something to talk about and cherish.

March 12th, 2020 at 22:44This phenomenal band far exceeded my expectations a long time ago, and, at this point, anything that they put out is simply gravy. Putting out new music is their choice. Getting it is mine. And I love it.
They’ve already proven their worth to me, many times over. I don’t need another album to determine their worth…it’s far beyond that. And I won’t judge their worthiness by the new release, either. I am just grateful that there is another album on the way. I will certainly welcome it with open arms.
P.S. I recently rediscovered Accidentally on Purpose. So different from any of the various DP Marks, but so amazing and full of variety and flourishing creativity. Big Ian and Roger are geniuses on that album. Give it a spin.

There is only one genius and that it Blackmore mate.I’m very open minded and accept every line up incarnation and albums,BUT WE STILL ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT IT RIGHT ?Granted we have to reserve our “critique”when the album is out,and then use the skip button.lol
Frankly this a Ian Gillan back up band so to speak,but hey I will still listen to it regardless.
March 15th, 2020 at 15:45@103 – Yes it is all about the MIB. nothing else matters (Metallica copyright!) Because as we all know DP was a one man band with some fillers on the other instruments.
I remember seeing RB smash those drums, play that Hammond like nobody’s business, lay bass lines with steady eddy beats that can’t be beat and his vocals WOW! Second to none. Never mind the lyrics – but Who Cares!

Oh well, I was not expecting too much after recent releases and this sort of fits. Basically too much Gillan and some well-worn accompaniment. Hard to tell much more from samples, and maybe it will sound more dynamic and open in the main rig but it all feels a bit tired. Ian G, love ya, but you have a tendency to just fill every space unnecessarily and indulge yourself. I thought an outside producer might have imposed a bit more discipline but this sounds like another dose of Infinite, as if one wasn’t enough.
