Return to Baalbeck
Back in 2006 Deep Purple were booked to play at the Baalbeck International Festival in Lebanon. The show had to be cancelled due to war that broke out in that country. The band were still committed to play up until the last moment when escalating violence forced the organizers to cancel the event. This year Deep Purple will make up for the cancelled show and play at the Baalbeck on July 25. Several more July shows have been confirmed, in Switzerland, Greece and Turkey. don’t you think that a reunion or family shows will be very good?

I have been to several shows over the last years and the setlist always differed
Gillan had a fantastic voice during the shows I attended
there batteries are full, they are firing an all cylinders when they are on stage
oh, yes, they should record a new album
the least I want is a reunion with this unpredictable, childish Blackmore, and as long as Deep Purple are going on, I don´t need a family-show. Perhaps this could be a good idea, as a last show, when they retire in hopefuly many, many years

Gillan doesn’t run on batteries, he doesn’t need them, regardless of a gripe or two about it, and there is nothing at this point that will change it besides perhaps retirement.
We don’t all agree, but it doesn’t change any facts at all and never will.
For instance, one thing I agree with here is that “Things I Never Said” is filler, because that’s what I find it to be, yes it’s my opinion that it’s nothing but a Gillan band b-side single out take, “Breaking Chains” anyone… check it out, people complain that mk8 is nothing but a Gillan spin off, then they turn around and call this song “classic Purple” when there is not one song in the Morse/Purple catalog that even comes anywhere near sounding like a Gillan band composition than that bonus track… this bugs me, but see above. Another thing I agree with is that Blackmore, to this day acts “childish” but also see above concerning what can or can’t, will or won’t be done about such things.
Poor fans, we’re so neglected.
January 13th, 2009 at 16:26I agree 99% with Roberto, but every time I see them or I hear them on CD/DVD I can’t stop loving them. The point for me is that I love the people in the band more than the band it self.
I would love some more new (House of paine – where are you??????) and “new old” stuff. They need to reevent them self or just go back to the roots. Right now it seems that they trying to be both the Rock & Roll Deep Purple but at the same time wants to try new directions. The problem is that they ARE Deep Purple. And you dont play around with a name like Deep Purple, and I think they to often do that.
I would love to see them taking a break. Do solo albums, solo concerts etc (Gillan it’s time to do Gillans Inn tour here in Europe!). Then in 2010 do the new CD with a hell of a lot of new energy. Do a ROCK album. If most of the other bands can do it (Maiden, Ozzy, Metallica and now AC/DC) Purple can do it to. If they want to. I’m 100% sure that they once again could do top-selling albums, but find the rock direction. And then make it a special thing when you are around. A great show, new great songs – and then beat the rest. You can do it.

I’m just hoping someone from the band take his time to read the posts here in this website, and take a positive view. So the band could be better and better. Rock! Rock! Till You Drop!

January 13th, 2009 at 17:25Again… “House Of Pain” barrrrf! Especially as an album opener, the cut and paste factor in that song is rather abundant. We all obviously like and dislike different things, which shows their imperfections if you ask me, or ours… naw!
Next tour should be titled, “The business as usual Tour” because I’m sure just like with Rapture, it will promote the album for two or three legs then go back to promoting MH for a couple of years, “as usual.”

the setlist differed only two or three songs each time, rather I think they have to do a big changement on their setlist.
Gillan voice has been great (with his ups and downs) untill 2006 than… so it dipends how many are you ‘last few years’…

Have to say that I have resisted participating in these things but have finally been pushed! Roberto – put another CD on, yours is so boring. Agree with Ted, Friedhelm and Ghost, we really don’t need a MKIII or Family reunion, if you don’t like what they’re doing, listen to something else. Saw DP in London last year and, yet again, IG’s voice was spot on – OK, he had to work really hard at it, but it was great. The UK’s setlist has been fairly varied over the past 12 years or so, yes we could all name favourites and less obvious, more obscure tracks that we would like to hear, but just be glad they’re still doing it, whatever it is. Otherwise Roberto, go back and listen to your beloved Stormbringer and gently fall asleep to the boredom contained therein.

I’m not here to make constantly repetitive blanket statements about my feelings possibly adding up to any opined shortcomings of theirs, I simply have too much insight for that so my activity is based on reality, and reality tells me there is no plans to stop touring and there is nothing we say that will ever change it. No whining and whimpering is going to stop their agenda, so it’s counter productive and very negative to bitch so much about something I like enough to pay daily attention to and say that they’re defrauding us or declining because they tour so much… fact or fiction, it’s not only irrelevant, it’s annoying.
One fan, or one thousand fans with the same petty remarks isn’t going to penetrate them to oblige when there are millions turning up to the shows around the world, so I think they have devoted comfort in knowing they’re doing something right. We’re but the few, trust me… we may feel that we’re important to them, but if people would just be supportive in the process and not act so offended by them for what means so little in the grand scheme of it all, they might listen.
So it doesn’t matter if I agree with you or not, on some counts I do, on some I don’t, but one things for sure, I take no losses either way concerning Deep Purple, but then I have to travel to see them because they haven’t touched down on my soil but twice since 85. So when I get out to see a show, I make it my mission to make sure it’s at the start of a new album leg. This is becoming a thing of choice for those of us who want to see quality performances, but not all can afford it… in my case it’s a matter of my own consumer integrity, but I might have been inclined to complain if I just had to see them at a stale point on any given tour. There is no way to control their ups and downs, only they can do that, so although things get weaker as they go, it’s still my responsibility to know when to see them and when to pass.
You want more releases, well… there are only so many hours in a year, so to speak, and only so many dollars to lose concerning that, so it’s probably not easy for them to get inspired about in order to do their best at it.(causes sub standard releases as well)
The only realistic option concerning Gillan is not possible, and that’s age reversal… if you think smoking and drinking make a difference, then what about all the other singers who do it, JLT comes to mind, so does David Coverdale and Dio, all of them drink and smoke, and always have, as long as they have been singing, in fact Dio has been known to smoke on stage.
About them reading this, it’s quite possible two or three of them do, but it’s just as possible that those culprits messrs Gillan/Glover/Morse then use things they read to continue to annoy those who bitch and complain, as it seems a majorital number here do, and it likely annoys them that so many express theirselves as if mkII still exists or something… that would bother anybody involved in something that exists otherwise. I could ask them for you, but I already know the answer, it’s written above.

I always like a song idea better the first time it’s used to my ears, check ‘Breaking Chains’ perhaps things work in reverse for you. Perhaps you haven’t heard that song, but what I’m saying doesn’t make ‘TINS’ all that bad or anything, but heck, just to add… the idea borrowing doesn’t end with the Gillan factor, notice how Steve Morse almost completely lifts the guitar riffing of Molly Hatchet’s ‘Flirting With Disaster’ for even more clues that it’s just not a very original song to speak of… these things bother me when concerning new material lacking or not in contemporary values, your mileage sure may vary… it’s still good either way, just not my cup of tea.

One of the bonus tracks on the MAGIC album, I seem to remember
Can t find the enthusiasm right now to find it in my drawers and compare it with TINS
But really loved some of those extra tracks
