Jerusalem’s album remaster
Gillan’s brief foray into producing other bands in the early 70-s is getting new attention. Jerusalem was an early 1970s British heavy rock five piece outfit. The band released one self-titled album worldwide in 1972 on Deram (UK catalogue number: SLD 6), which was produced by Gillan. Jerusalem’s only other release was a 45 rpm 7 inch single, the non-album ‘Kamikaze Moth’ backed with ‘Frustration’ from the LP. The album was reissued on CD in 2005 in Japan.
Back then, this is what Gillan had to say about this band:
This is the first album by Jerusalem, a band which excites me very much; they are rough, raw and doomy with their own strong identity. As they are young and a bit green, they don’t follow many rules, so their material is almost crude – but still immensely powerful in content.
I believe that, whenever possible, the work of writers and players in their formative stages should be recorded; before inhibition and self-consciousness set in, before fire and aggression die down, and while they are still absorbing influences and doing things which others might consider ‘uncool’. Most important though, before they might develop that self-imposed rigidity which afflicts so many. I hope none of these things happen to Jerusalem, we’ll have to wait and see, this album is just in case. I hope you like it as much as I do.
The album is about to being re-released in late 2008 on the Rockadrome label remastered from the multitrack tapes.

I hold this from years and I payed it 50 euro…It’s good,it’s raw,Hrad garage rock, they were 18,and honestly poor production but Gillan wrote good liner notes..

In the late seventies and early eighties they, tried to make a name for themselves!Besides the christian community(Yes,they were “White Metal”),not many gave a toss,unfortunenately…they were quite good and deserved more attention!
If memory serves me well,I think they´ve once recorded an album in the states.Maybe someone out there can help me out on this one….Mike Ericson perhaps??ROCK ON!

November 17th, 2008 at 23:40Yes, I have the original vinyl version of this along with the single and 1st CD release. Very good Rock and worth picking up if you don’t have it. I wonder if there will be a re-release of another band he worked with called ‘Pussy’. Some more good hard rock. Then of course there is ‘Zero-Nine’s debut which he also produced. Got ’em all and all are decent….

November 18th, 2008 at 18:02Yep Tracy, Gillan produced Zero Nine’s Blank Verse-album(from ’82 and their second record, actually). ZN is one of the longest serving hard rock-bands here in Finland(formed in the mid-70’s) and the very first band that I saw live…they were obviously influenced by Purple, Heep, Whitesnake etc. & still play gigs occasionally.
White Lines, Intrique & Voodoo You-albums are some of their best/recommendable work.

November 25th, 2008 at 01:25I have to say Tracy took every word he said right out of my mouth, still cherishing the originals of Jaruselem, Pussy and ZN, another format or remaster treatment isn’t really important to me, but it does justice for the artist in terms of sales and noteriety and a new generation gets to soak it up if they find out about it.
