Ian Gillan opens Gillan Vinyl Collection box set for the first time and proceeds to go through the relevant anecdotage:

October 22nd, 2016 at 13:30I really enjoyed that run through of those albums with Ian Gillan, excellent! The albums I owned out here in Oz back in the 80’s, certainly didn’t fold out like those. Gave them all away as I did also with the Whitesnake albums from the same era! There are some wonderful songs on those albums, party mode most of them of course & I don’t listen to that sort of music anymore! Will never forget that gig in 1982 in Sydney, Gillan went off big time! There is no way he could sing a lot of those songs these days! Maybe a ballad or two, but not those harder songs! Loved the ‘ I will tell you to jump when needed & it has been that way ever since’ line, classic! Cheers.

I understand most people’s tastes evolve and so does mine. I still listen to most music I’ve liked at some point in my life, although maybe not quite as often. “I don’t listen to that sort of music anymore!”, sounds like it’s evil or dangerous or something… 🙂

What I meant is I don’t have those albums anymore, gave them to a friend who was keen back in the late 80’s. There is a lot of music I don’t own anymore that I used to. Yes I would call it evolving, maybe I have heard it all too many times to feel the need to physically possess it in my collection. Having said that, I did go back a year or so ago & listen to some of the Gillan tracks online! A nice bit of nostalgia, as I said there are some good songs on those albums. Having recently relocated from QLD down to Tasmania, packing up all those boxes full of cd’s, was a reminder as to why I sold off my lp collection 14 years ago. Too much to move around at times, now I am starting to think the same with my cd & dvd collections. Cheers.

October 26th, 2016 at 12:50@6 Can I get an app that erases your posts? That one dug you so far deep it’s just hard to take your opinion seriously. It’s backed by what only seems to be Blackmore’s mutiny. Everything stopped according to such and is now some kind of redux evaluation. An opinion is something everyone has, but ones that are relentlessly expressed without paying attention to the ongoing décor and blasting out sections of the past like it’s nobody’s business is just laughable. And btw, who gives a rusty screw if he can sing these tracks these days like he used to? What is that?! He’s not singing them. But Blackmore sure is as he so accurately put it himself recently, “vastly deteriorating.” Not hard to sense what the problem is here. Why Purple fans have taken on their battles as if they are their own in life to have with other fans of a common thing is just mind blowing adult behavior. Of course this exceeds this thread to a laborious degree. 🙂

October 27th, 2016 at 11:35Here is something very interesting that I submitted to THS back in 2008, regarding the “Glory Road” album. It is a variation of the album sleeve that was not used, complete with other alternative artwork, Band Promo Photo and negatives. I won’t add anything here except that this version I have was designed by Gillan and Cooke Key, not Simon Valley as he states here in this video.

I still prefer Future Shock as Gillan’s(The band, someone referred to it saying GR was a solo record)) most outstanding album.
November 5th, 2016 at 14:26Hi, Why does nobody miss the studio album Abandon on vinyl as much as I do? And why isn’t it finally released on vinyl, because there was only a tiny, quickly sold-out edition in 1998. Deep Purple albums are constantly being reissued, but the missing Abandon never? ..yes i agree, but have you ever noticed, that Future Shock has nearly no bass frequencies below 80 Hertz? You can turn the controls on an EQ as much as you want.
If the new versions finally had a normal level of deep bass, I would be thrilled!
