Pisco Sour under Peruvian skies
Deep Purple are a hard touring band. They stay on the road sometimes for months non-stop. Sometimes they manage to play concerts across 7 timezones in that many days. As Roger Glover once said: “I will play for free, but I want to be paid for being on the road.”
Next week the band embarks on the tour of Latin America. In 23 days they will give 12 concerts in 7 countries on 2 continents. So, how are they trying to stay sane with such schedule? LivingInPeru.com reports on the band’s rider for the concert in Lima, Peru:
“The group has planned to eat typical dishes and it is a fact that we will treat them to our national drink. They know about them and that is why they have requested our drinks in the bars in their dressing rooms,” said Peter Herrera, the event organizer.
Event organizers explained that Deep Purple’s tour manager and director had sent a list of the band’s requests, in which the band’s diet as well as their special requests were listed.
“They have requested that their leisure time be respected and warned that they tend to be loud, stating they will not let anyone control the noise they make anywhere,” explained event organizers.
Deep Purple will have five luxury vans, with Evian water, at their disposal while in Lima. The band also requested two dressing rooms with living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, offices and telephone as well as internet connections.
Plenty of fruit and a bar with typical Peruvians drinks such as Pisco Sour, are also on their list of demands.

I’ve been to Lima two years ago. Their local food is delicious. The ceviche is like a kind of spiced sushi, although with lemon instead of shoyu. The only problem is what is called Montezuma curse. I drank bottled water all the time, but couldn’t avoid it when I got back to Brazil.
If any of you Purps are reading this, don’t forget to treat yourselves to some candies they have in the Lima airport. It’s toasted coffee grains covered with chocolate. If there should be one single reason that would take me back to Lima for a visit (the friends I made there there notwithstanding), it’s these candies.

To Felipe in Chile: Another case of ignorance and poor educational level, insulting us Peruvians you ain’t going nowhere. I warn everybody here: the liquor known as PISCO was invented in Peru about more than 4 centuries ago, its made from pure grapes and it has a crystal clear colour. And our national drink, the cocktail named PISCO SOUR, was created by a Peruvian barman and an English gentleman in a Lima hotel back in 1920. Check it out, history gives us the reason!
Unfortunately, since the past century Chile has concocted a liquor they call “pisco”, but is not the same as the Peruvian Pisco (which is the original and the best), the Chilean “version” it’s just high grade alcohol lowered with distilled water to make it drinkable, and it has a yellowish tone that resembles piss. ¿Can you imagine a tequila from another country that’s not Mexico?
