Mario Lanza in a rock context
A 2002 vintage interview with Ronnie James Dio, recorded during his joint tour with Deep Purple and Scorpions. He talks about importance of classical music in his upbringing and how him and Blackmore first connected through their love for J.S.Bach.
Thanks to BraveWords for the info.

March 9th, 2016 at 20:05Of course way back then, his Bach was worse than his bytes. Groan…, they’re not getting any better, are they?!.
March 9th, 2016 at 20:31I was at the Scorpions/Dio/Purple gig in Las Vegas that year. What an amazing concert!
March 9th, 2016 at 21:31love the eric blair interviews with DIO. sounds weird, i know, but the white light energy around DIO was unusually bright and almost blinding. nothing around blair. i’m weird. love you still, Ronnie James DIO m/ <3
March 9th, 2016 at 22:59R.I.P., Dio! You are remembered and missed by many!!!
I was lucky enough to see the triple bill on that tour in 2002, in Atlanta Georgia. I had fourth row seats; Dio opened, then Purple followed, and Scorpions closed.
This was my first Deep Purple concert, I have since seen them 2 more times…
This was a glorious day, Dio was majestic. I remember all my friends who hadn’t heard of him were absolutely wowed by his vocal range.
This is one of the concerts that I will remember for as long as I am alive-magnificent!!!
I later saw Dio at the Masquerade in Atlanta with Hammerfall as the opening act.
Those were the days…
March 10th, 2016 at 17:07Got to see this tour in Atlanta and hang with Roger and Don after the show. The meet and greet was cut short due to the fact that it was DIO’s Birthday and there was a private celebration for him in an outdoor pavilion with a Hawaiian Luau theme and Roger and Don were wearing Hawaiian shirts for the event. Sure wish I could have attended that little party.

March 10th, 2016 at 18:31Nice interview with RJ Dio. Such a pity the Rainbow reunion didn’t happen with him & Cozy in the late 90’s. Nothing but respect from the man towards other musicians. I have never taken any notice of certain people who try to make out Dio was still pissed off with things, that occurred during his time in Rainbow & Sabbath! Always look at the bigger picture, as the petty things mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. RIP
March 10th, 2016 at 20:31I also saw them on the tour with DP and Scorps at Reno NV. Met Steve for the second time outside the elevators in the hotel. He looked/was lost carrying his guitar and a suitcase looking for a crew member! I said I wish I could help you find the guy but looked forward to seeing the show. The show was fantastic, all 3 bands were great!
