Cozy Powell memorial plaque
A memorial plaque dedicated to Cozy Powell will be unveiled in his home town of Cirencester on January 7, reports local newspaper. The town council decided to create the plaque to commemorate the town’s most famous musician. The plaque will be installed at the Corn Hall, which now serves as a community center. The event will be attended by Cozy’s friends and collaborators, including our own Don Airey, plus Tony Iommi, Brian May, Suzy Quatro, Tony Martin, Neil Murray, and Bernie Marsden. [Side note: just add a drummer and they can have a decent jam going…] The reception will include memorabilia display and performances by local musicians. Plans are being made to film the event for Dance With The Devil documentary on Cozy’s life, currently in production.

December 25th, 2015 at 11:45Best drummer ever!!!
December 27th, 2015 at 19:37Saw him first live with Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow.
– They just don’t make drummers like Cozy anymore!
December 28th, 2015 at 09:22Tricky one this, but out of all his work, including all of his Rainbow stuff, the one album I would take to a desert island of him on anything would be Over The Top which has such an array of talent as to be breathtaking, with the track Killer being 11 out of 10.
January 1st, 2016 at 18:25Clive@11- your not wrong there, Cozy worked with an incredibly diverse selection of musicians, Simon Phillips also. Those two drummers have it worked out, so much to listen to at times. Yes, OTT is a favourite of mine, but I also rate Octopuss & Tilt right up there! Some of those instrumentals that have Gary Moore on them & of course the original The Loner is on OTT with Clem Clempson on guitar. Jack Bruce also frequented Powell recordings & certain gigs occasionally! Don Airey also of course. Brilliant! Cheers.
January 2nd, 2016 at 23:13beautiful homenage..
January 6th, 2016 at 05:56Some nice coverage over at Tony Iommi’s Facebook site, also at BBC News. Good to see Carl Palmer there. If Jack Bruce & Gary Moore were still with us, maybe they would also have been there, such was Powell’s connection with many outstanding musicians. RIP. Cheers.
January 9th, 2016 at 03:50Cozy was fantastic! I saw him in Black Sabbath on their Tyr tour in 1990. What a powerhouse drummer. He was perfect for the Sabbath sound. I wish I could have seen him when he was with Rainbow.
January 12th, 2016 at 01:00I think Don is to be seen in the Video. Watch out for the Person with the glasses at the very back of the crowd around 43 seconds into the Video.
January 12th, 2016 at 09:45Uwe Fisher @ 16:
You are correct.
Coverdale and Blackmore should have been in attendance as well. Cozy was an integral part of both Whitesnake and Rainbow.
