Subject: Brushing with that greatness stuff

You asked for it, so I guess I'll share. I suppose this is technically a "Rainbow" brush with greatness, but since it's with RG and JLT - I thought you may get a giggle out of it anyway:

My best friend, Lori-Ann, and I were big "Rainbow" fans back in high school (around 1983). Soon after "Bent Out of Shape" was released, we were waiting rather impatiently for the tour (which I knew I would never see). One day, I heard on the radio that there was going to be some sort of fundraising event for a local veterans' charity. It would have slipped by unnoticed, except for some of the names of people who were to be there - "members of Rainbow". We just had to go!

We went that night, it was a local bowling alley and I'm not sure what I expected. When the riff-raff was finally allowed inside the place, I was a bit surprised. We were all going to bowl?!? It was a little strange to say the least. The famous people (RG, JLT, Chuck Burghi and a few others - mostly from New Jersey based-bands) and their entourage all camped in the little bowling booths. The rest of us gathered around to watch, stare and otherwise gape, but it was obvious we were not to cross into the "special" territory (big security types are always a give away). Luckily, my friend and I had a nice spot near the front where we just watched and I took pictures (I had this cheesy 110 camera with a flip flash - 'member those?).

It may have been weird, but it was also very cool! RG and JLT were very friendly and were just hanging out with this small mob of people - in between actually attempting to bowl a few games. I took a few pictures, but I think my camera annoyed everyone because everytime my flash went off it seemed as though RG and JLT looked straight at me (maybe it was just nerves). JLT even hung out with us peasants for a little while and I snapped a picture of him with my friend and we got his autograph. After much pushing and shoving, we even managed to get RG's autograph (although it was passed down the line so I didn't actually get to meet him personally, until...)

All good things come to an end, the evening was winding down and after all that happened I was a bit disappointed because I wanted a picture of me with RG. So I took a deep breath, crossed over that "special" line and tapped RG politely on the shoulder. He turned and I said in a *REALLY* tiny voice:

"Um, I'd like to get a picture of me with you."

RG then gave me the biggest smile. He put his arm over my shoulder, took my camera from me and then led me over to where this group of women were sitting. He handed the camera to a woman and then he was chatting with me, but I was so nervous at this point that I have not idea what he may have said or asked me. I got my picture and practically ran back to my friend (I'm the world's biggest wimp and I couldn't believe I did that).

To this day, that is the *WORST* photograph of me ever taken!
